Miss Ida Butler, Assistant Director,
American Red Cross Nursing Service,
FEB 1 - 1932
National Headquarters,
Referred to
American Red Cross,
Washington, D. C.
My dear Miss Butler:
You promised to tell me what you thought I should do for the
A. R. C. in Indiana when I was "organized". Now I think the time has
come for my instructions.
I met with the local committee - Miss Ina Gaskill, Chairman -
the other night and was asked to make some of the speeches to the
senior students in the training schools. In preperation for this
work I call on you.
And then, I should like to know what book you would choose to tell
the story of A. R. C. if you were planning a small library for the use
of graduate nurses largely. I think we shall try a reading contest in
Indiana. If we do, we want to choose books which the state library can
or will provide for the nurses in towns without public libraries and
books which we hope public libraries will be glad to add to their
shelves for the general reading public if they do not already carry
them. If we had only the nurses to consider we could use the big
history of the A. R. C. Nursing Service, but I believe the hope of
having these books bought by public libraries limits our field. Don't
you?
There is to be a change in this local committee which you will
hear of through the proper channels. Miss Winifred Zink goes to
Miami, Florida as instructor. She is a young Red Crosser but has
studied to familiarize herself with policies and is anxious to continue
in Red Cross work. I hope the local committee in Florida can make her
acquaintance early for, as I remember, Florida has a very sweet spirit
in its A. R. C. circles.
Thank you for the help which I know you will send.
Very sincerely,
Helen Teal, R. N.,
Executive Secretary.
