Helen Teal LAKE DIVISION. Miss I. Malinde Havey, November 8, 1921. NURSING SERVICE. Miss Clara D. Noyes. Your letter regarding the appointment of Miss Helen Teal 18 Director of the Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick, or to look after the Class Instruction and Throll- ment has been received. May I ask if you are making her the Director of this Service, with a place on the Staff Council, or will you, yourself, assume the responsibility looking upon her as an Assistant only, and perhaps a temporary appointee? I do not know how much preparation Miss Teal has had for this type of work. I am sure you appreciate that the Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick is one of the great- est assets that we possess, and is particularly valuable because of the ease and facility with which Chapters can utilize it. It is possible also to make it self supporting, so that there need be no drain upon the Chapters in this direction, but it does take a good organizer and someone with a fine personality and the ability to speak in public. Miss Teal may possess all these qualities. I like her very much, and have been greatly pleased with the way in which she has taken the load in certain difficult situations. The enrollment and the selection of nurses for special assignments such as those with the Govern- ment Hospitals, for overseas work (nowvery limited), providing núrses in disaster relief, etc., is all of very great importance. May I sek if it is your intention that Miss Teal will represent you in your absence? Insseuch as no provi- sion has been made for an Assistant, Director, this I presume will be essential. I believe in a rash moment I offered you one of my photographs. I am, therefore, under separate cover sending you a small one authgraphed. Sincerely yours, Director - Nursing Service. N-k
