Noyes.\nYour letter regarding the appointment of\nMiss Helen Teal 18 Director of the Home Hygiene and Care of\nthe Sick, or to look after the Class Instruction and Throll-\nment has been received. May I ask if you are making her the\nDirector of this Service, with a place on the Staff Council,\nor will you, yourself, assume the responsibility looking upon\nher as an Assistant only, and perhaps a temporary appointee?\nI do not know how much preparation Miss\nTeal has had for this type of work. I am sure you appreciate\nthat the Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick is one of the great-\nest assets that we possess, and is particularly valuable because\nof the ease and facility with which Chapters can utilize it.\nIt is possible also to make it self supporting, so that there\nneed be no drain upon the Chapters in this direction, but it\ndoes take a good organizer and someone with a fine personality\nand the ability to speak in public. Miss Teal may possess all\nthese qualities. I like her very much, and have been greatly\npleased with the way in which she has taken the load in certain\ndifficult situations. The enrollment and the selection of\nnurses for special assignments such as those with the Govern-\nment Hospitals, for overseas work (nowvery limited), providing\nnúrses in disaster relief, etc., is all of very great importance.\nMay I sek if it is your intention that Miss\nTeal will represent you in your absence? Insseuch as no provi-\nsion has been made for an Assistant, Director, this I presume will\nbe essential.\nI believe in a rash moment I offered you one\nof my photographs.
