American Red Cross,
Washington, D. C.
MAR 21 1917
My dear Miss Clement:
Miss Margaret Thomas is very slightly known to me.
She is a big, good-natured, easy-going looking woman, with
a good preliminary education and a Johns Hopkins training.
She talks incessantly but finds it rather hard to put her
thoughts into writing. She was very much disappointed with
her practice work while at the School of Civics, and I rather
admired the way in which she came out and said so.
She
liked the theoretical work and said that she would recommend
it to any nurse, but she felt that the work with the United
Charities was extremely poor.
Miss Helen Kelley, Superintendent of School Nurses
here, knows Miss Thomas' previous work, I believe, and Miss
Thomas herself very well. I know that she could tell you
much more about her than I can. I don't like to recommend
a woman who is known to me so very slightly, and whose work
I don't know at all.
Very sincerely yours,
Edua L. Foley
Superintendent.
