m an A telegram from Miss Ahrens today informs us that it has been impossible for them to get a Secretary. We are at the present time investigating a Rose Hurt, who has been recommended from Seattle, who states that she speaks Russian, not fluently but fairly well. This seems to be the best we can do at the present time. There may be some difficulty, however, with her papers in the war Department. we have wired our Division Director in Seattle for further information regarding her. It is doubtful whether Miss Hurt could sail with you on the 26th, even if she were approved, but could probably follow on the next sailing. We are sending Miss Mary Bethel, Hiss Helen Bridge and Miss Mabel Blackmar. All theoe of these women have been recommended very highly as being splendid executives, and WO hope that every effort will be made to give them positions as nurses In charge of Hospitals with the usual salary given to Chief Marsos - $90.00 per month. Until this recommendation is made by you, after your arrival in Siboria and their being given that work, they are being paid the usual salary for nurs a - $70.00 per month. Mrs. Lenah Highboo, Superintendent of the Navy Nurse Corps, telephoned me yesterday and informed mo Bethel, stating that without doubt they considered her one of the most officient Chief Nurses in the Havy Marco Corps. She is a charming type of wordan, and I believe will do splendid work. Miss Bridge and Miss Blackmar are equally well recommended. with best wishes, and thanking you for your Interest, believé me as Very sincerely, Acting Director, Bure u of Field Harsing Service. v/MOD
