February 24, 1920.
Miss Anna L. Tittman.
A.R.C. Commission to Siberia,
Vladivo stok, Siberia.
My dear Miss Tittman:
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your two
reports concerning Miss Bernadette Cormier, and Mrs. Margaret K
Cooper, together with the efficiency and assignment reports of the
nurses and aids already released. I shall do nothing more than
acknowledge these enclosures as the operations are closing so rapidly
in Vladivostok.
Your letter of the 30th with the report for the
Eastern Division for theweek ending January 24th has also been received.
I was gald to learn that Miss Smythe and Miss Steelman were making
progress. Later information received by cable states that Miss Steeleman
does not expect to return to this a untry. This will be a great
disappointment to her family as they are most anxious for her return
and what they choose to style "the Red Cross sending her home." It
is difficult to understand the nurse's willingness to remain in that
country.
We have had a telegram from Miss Bartlett announc-
ing her arrival in San Francisco, and also one from Miss White reporting
the safe landing of the large group.
I have also received a communication from Major
R.H.Allen, under date of the 2nd, enclosing the weekly report for the
month of November from the Central Division. He expresses warm appreciation
of the services that the nurses have rendered.
Recent cables received announce that Miss Harrington
is traveling in China, We are hoping that you will be able to reach her
and return her to this country as soon as possible for the position in
Seattle as Division Director Red Cross Nursing Service. I am partic-
ularly busy this week but will try to find some leisure time to read
these reports later.
Very truly yours,
Clara Droged
Director. Department of nursing.
