Dear Miss Delano:
Will you please give me the present address of Miss Rachel
C. Torrance? The last letter I received from her was from the
address 42 Grosvenor Place, London, S. W., but I understand that
she was assigned to duty in the American Red Cross Mission to
the Balkans. Has she gone with that mission do you know?
I inclose copy of a letter just received from our brother
Robert who is a Lieutenant of Engineers stationed in Blois for
some time. I send it because I think you would like to have
the information it contains, but as it was written with no idea
that it would be shown to you, please consider it confidential
and return the copy to me.
By the way, I remember that Sister Rachel received only one
service bar for her work in the hospital at Kief and for her work
in Bulgaria with Miss Hay -- although a nurse who had left Kief
after a few months, returned to the United States, and gone again
to Europe would for a shorter length of service at greater ex-
pense to the Red Cross have received two bars. The present case
will present a similar situation. Some of the Roumanian Mission
returned to the United States for a rest before returning to
Europe for service in the Balkan Mission or elsewhere. They will
receive two bars for the work in Roumania and the work in the
Balkans or elsewhere. Is Rachel to receive only one bar for the
