My dear Miss Noyes Elexeonia KIEV
It
is a longotimensince have been thinking to write to
you, but because of many not done until now, and
as the time is very near when Miss Torrance will leave Bulgaria
we take advanage of the occasion to say something of the activity
she has developed in the School and in the Nursing Profession
as a wholeaeroo0) Ioodoa
We certainly are so sorry that Miss Torrance is going to
leave us so soon, because the three years she has been with us
seem like three lovely days, full of sunshine.due to her strong
character - good spirit - absolute truthfulness - justice - patience
and
willingness - always, wherever and whenever to help people with what
she can. She has been and will continue to be, a real example
to students, nurses and to everybody who has come in close contact
with her, and she has worked with such enthusiasm and perserverance
that we fully agree with the article, written in one of the American
papers a year ago, calling her, 11 Florence Nightingale on the Balkans".
Miss Torrance developed very well the work of madern Nursing
which was begun in 1915 by Miss Hay the assistance of Miss Torrance
and we hope that the Bulgarian nurses will appreciate what the
American nurses have done and will try their best for further develop-
ment. Now we won't miss the chance to thank the American Red Cross
for sending Miss Theodora LeGros as Miss Torrance's assistant. She
was such a good teacher to the students in their practical work
in the hospital wards - most of her time with them - woring together
and showing them how to do things right. Most of the new order in
the Red Cross Hospital is due to her. We appreciate her and her work
and would like to see her again. Her name is often mentioned
by the people she worked with and we are very glad to have in
her place Miss Hazel Goff, who is very interested in the school
and trying very hard to arrange a good program, which, of course,
is an important condition which will raise still more the standards
of this school.
Really the American Red Cross has done so much for Bulgaria
and we will try to show our gratitude by working faithfully
and with enthusiasm in the Nursing field, having always in
mind the splendid work of the American Nurses and the wonderful
character of Miss Torrance thank to whose tactful and wise
way of doing things, the nursing profession in Bulgaria has gained
so much. We would be most happy if we could have Miss Torrance
all her life with us.
