Forrance Extractäken from letter from Miss Hazel Goff to Miss Noyes, Mar. 11,1925. " You know, Miss Noyes, I am very fond of Miss Torrance, personally and find new things to admire in her every day. She is a very sweet, loyal, just woman but I c cannot frankly say that I always enjoy working with her. In the first place she is all tired out and has lost her enthusiasm. She has to force herself to make th things go and besides that she admits she is getting "ordental" and finds it easy to put off things. She is far from well and has spent on the average of four days p per month in bed since I have been here. From what they all say she has changed tremendously and I think it is because of her physical state, although she claims she feels 5000/0 better than she did four months ago. I have tried to get her to go away for a rest but she in one of those people who will not even take an afternoon and putters around until midnight doing unnecessary things. You cannot drag her out to an entertainment where she gets a different atmosphere. The only thing I can ever get her to go to is the book Club where they discuss light, frivolous things like the Dawes Plan etc. I learned soon after I came here we could not work and play together because I cannot talk yshop" eighteen hours a day and od enthusiastic work when I am officially on duty. Consequently I already know far more people in Sofia than Miss Torrance and have had a perfectly S splendid time socially. I like the people, have gained in weight, am very happy and have been able to turn off considerable work. Miss Torrance insists that she has to go home this summer. It is a pity, as this is her piece of work, her plan and I think she should finish it altho I really cannot see how she can do so unless she takes an extended vacation and her health improves." see letter filed 502.
