September i, 1942 Mrs. Laura Knowlton Turner Vassalboro, Maine My dear Laura: I-found your nice letter upon my return from vacation and it is always so nice to hear from you, Laura. In answer to your question regarding A.N.A. membership, you are quite right in assuming that this is a requirement for service as a committee member. Both A N.A. membership and registration in the state in which the nurse.is located are requirements. A.N.A. member- ship, as you no-doubt know, has been waived for the duration for nurses who are interested in serving with the armed forces: Your family certainly is having a large part in the war efforts. 1 realize, too, how difficult it would be for you to leave your father and mother in order to go with Mr. Turner, much as I know you would like to be able to do so. Please remember me to him and give my affectionate greetings to your dear father and mother. I had a grand vacation and feel quite ready for the hard winter's work which 1 am sure is ahead of all of us. With sincere good wishes to you for your splencid cooperation, I am Affectionately yours, Marie P terson assistant to Director Nursing Service
