plicant's physical examination blank, Form 1193; letter of acceptance
to
public health nursing course; employers' credentials; and applicant's
photograph if no personal interview is held.)

1. What is known of the quality of the applicant's past work other than stated in em-
ployers credentials? Has the applicant shown that she has or is developing the
capacity and personality necessary for successful chapter work?
The applicant has, by her two years' work in this service, proved that
she has unusual capacity for Chapter work. This was evidenced by report of
Junior field worker, who made special inquiry regarding how much Chapter work
nurses should do. She was afraid Miss Knowlton was doing too much, plus nursing
and Junior work. An unsound, expensive program has been replaced by one that
means value to health work and re-established confidence in Red Cross.
2. Does applicant appear genuinely interested in rural work? Unquestionably so.
3. Does she understand and willingly accept her service obligation? She does.
4. Give personal impression made by applicant. To be filled in and signed by a
member of the Division nursing staff who knows applicant or who has interviewed
her)
A very steady, calm cheerful and capable Chapter worker and nurse.
Director's opinion and recommendations:
I consider Miss Knowlton one of our most valuable nurses. Not only
has she meant considerable in stabilizing the Bar Harbor Service, but for the
future of our work in Maine, she is very much needed.
