    "ocrText": "March 8, 1943\nCOMMITTEE ADVISED &\nAREA OFFICE AND\nMiss Jeanette Agnes Varfieur\n26 North Bend Street\nNOV 3 1943\nPawtucket, Rhode Island\nMy dear Miss Varrieur:\nYour physical has been approved by our Red Cross medical advisor\nand we are now in a position to offer you an appointment as Staff Nurse\nwith one of the civilian emergency hospitals in the Hawaiian Islands which\nis under the jursidiction of the Emergency Medical and Hospital Service of\nThe Territorial Office of Civilian Defense in the Territory of Hawaii. This\nposition carries the salary of $112.50 per month, including full mainte-\nnance and the laundering of your uniforms. Your salary will start from the\ntime you take your Oath of Office in San Francisco, as will also the terms\nof your employment with the Office of Civilian Defense, in accordance with\nthe employment regulations enclosed.\nAs you have noted, we have advised you to take your own hospital\ncape. However, we shall supply you with three Red Cross caps and eight\nRed Cross insignia to be worn on your uniforms. These are now being sent\nfrom our Supply Department and should reach you within a short time. This\nequipment is in the form of a loan and you will be expected to return\nit to this office whenever you terminate your service there.\nThe required immunizations are smallpox, triple typhoid and tatanus\ntoxoid. If you have not been vaccinated for smallpox within the past year,\na repeat vaccination is advised. As both the tetanus and typhoid inoculations\nare given in a series covering several weeks, you will nees to start these\nat once. If your immunizations are not completed before you, leave home,\narrange to take the medication with you, and if an inoculation comes due\nwhile you are in San Francisco, please get in touch with Miss Gladyce\nBadger, Civic Auditorium, Larkin & Grove Streets, who is in charge of our\nPacific Area Office, and who will make arrangements for this to be given.\nEnclosed are duplicate immunization forms. One is to be returned to this\noffice, the other you will, keep with you at all times. In case your inocu-\nlations have not been completed before you leave the Mainland, please re-\nturn one immunization register to this office, indicating the time that the\nseries will have been completed.\nEnclosed please find the following:\n1. Employment regulations\n2. Supplementary information\n3. Duplicate immunization registers"
