3 a E u FORM 336 AMERICAN RED CROSS NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS To: Miss Beard Date: February 22, 1942 M From: Mr. Allen Subject: I have read with great interest Mrs. Waring's letter offering the hospitality of her little house in Devon to the Red Cross also offering to be of any assistance possible. I would suggest that you write Miss Madley about Mrs. Waring's wish to be of assistance. Possibly some of the American nurses might be interested in going down there although I notice in her letter she states that Miss Madley had written that they had lots of invitations. I cannot think of anything that Mrs. Waring might do with the general American Red Cross effort in Britain. You know that all of our relief work there is being done through the British Red Cross and through the W.V.S. and we have only a few field representatives who travel about the country supervising these activities. Our program is under-going some changes now, of course, since the arrival of the American forces in Britain but it seems highly impro- bable that we would be establishing small recreational centers in Devon. When you write Miss Madley, I think we might also send a copy of the letter to Mr. Carter, our Delegate in Britain. He may have an idea. Richard F. Allen Vice Chairman 31822
