Extract from letter from Miss Adelaide Nutting, Teachers College, New York, to Miss Fox. September 11, 1919. UI have directed to you this morning, a former Johns Hopkins student, named Ruth Waterbury. You probably know something of her and her work and will be able to décide on the basis of first hand knowledge what should be done for her. I was much touched by her story of her struggle for an education while at the same time she had to meet responsibilities in her home and family. I hope the is the kind of candidate whom we ought to help in every way in our power, and I am writing to Miss Lawler for further information about her." Extract from letter from Miss Van Duzor to Miss Nutting. September 16, 1919. "Miss Waterbuty has signed an application for scholarship, which undoubtedly will be approved. She was not just certain whether you planned to secure a four months' scholarship wutside the Red Cross, alth we were to grant a four months scholarship, so that she might take an eight months' course but we had her, sigh for both courses, and we will be glad to give her which wver one she may need. There seems to be something quite unusual about Miss Waterhury. Yester- day she made a very favorable impression here. I wish all our applicants had just half the "something" she seems to possess.'
