November 14, 1923, Miss Ruth Waterbury, 43 Shepard Street, Ch Cambridge, Mass. My dear Miss Waterbury: Inclosed will be found a copy of a letter which has been sent to Miss Gillett for publication in the news- papers of the Virgin Islands. I am sorry they did not let me see this before it was sent, as I believe I could have improved upon it a bit. However, it should leave no misunderstanding in the minde of the people down thore s.s to your position with the American Red Cross, I was sorry not to see more of you when you were in a few days ago. I believe we were disturbed by Mr. Swift, with whom I hnd an appointment which I could not very well postpone. Miss Hurd hes been in for the past day or so, and has brought us the latest news of the Islands. You, of courso, that Governor and Mra. Hough were leaving, and they were planning a somewhat different relationship of the Governor and bis family to the Red Cross Chapter. Miss Hurd felt very strongly that another nurse was needed in her place. I do not know how Miss Gillett feels about this, but if I remember rightly, you felt that the native núrses should be able to carry on the work with some general direction from Miss Gillett. Hoping that each day sees you a bit stronger and rested from your service in the Virgin Islands, I am Very sincerely yours, National Director - Nursing Service. n-k
