Bunker\nTrust Officer\nBoston Safe Deposit and Trust Co.\n100 Franklin Street\nBoston, Massachusetts\nMy dear Mr. Bunker:\nWe are grateful for your letter of April 24th advising\nus of the death of Miss Yssabella Gertrude Waters, a member of our\nenrollment. The pin which you have found among Miss Waters! effects\nis undoubtedly her credential as an American Red Cross nurse. If\nyou will examine it, you will find her serial enrollment number -\n34888 - on the back of the pin.\nWhen this pin, or badge, was issued to Miss Waters in\nMay, 1919, it was with the understanding that it would always remain\nthe property of the American Red Cross, to be returned to National\nHeadquarters at such time as her enrollment should terminate. This\naccounts for the instructions you have found on the envelope con-\ntaining the pin. We are enclosing a copy of the regulations govern-\ning the use of the Red Gross nurse's badge, which are self-explanatory.\nThe badge has very little intrinsic value, but it is a cre-\ndential, and occasionally we have had lost pins fall into the hands of\npersons who have used them to the discredit of the Red Cross. This is\nthe reason for requesting the return of the badge when a nurse dies, or\nresigns as a member of our enrollment.\nWe shall be grateful if you will forward Miss Waters' badge\nto us at your convenience, and upon its receipt we shall place it on\nfile with her permanent records. We suggest that you insure the badge\nfor five dollars.\nAt the time of her enrollment, we also issued to Miss Waters,\na\nsmall appointment card bearing her name, the name of her school of\nnursing, date of enrollment, et cetera. If you find a card which answers\nthis description among her effects, we shall appreciate its return with\nthe badge.\nAs your letter brings us the first advice of Miss Waters'\ndeath, we shall also be grateful for any additional data which you may\nbe willing to send us for our records.
