A.R.C. funds and dismissed. The French Colonel then asked Dr. Nöske for a
written statement of her dismissal, giving reasons. Dr. Noske wrote the let-
ter requested and showed it to Miss S., who told me it contained accusations
as above against Capt. Lyon re his alleged relations with the womani in question
Miss S. told Capt. Lyon of the letter, and he saw Dr. Noske before the letter
was sent, but Miss S. does not know the outcome.
At an early opportunity, I asked Capt. Lyon his reasons for requesting
transfer of the two nurses. He was reluctant to state any definite reason,
but finally told me of this incident.
One evening about nine O'clock, a few weeks before, a French Lieutenant
came to the house with a request from Col. Cretin that Miss S. come to his
house to drink coffee, and S. went with the Lt. roturning avout one-half
hour later. Col. Cretin is the French officer in military control of the dis-
trict and lives wkth some of hás staff in a house not far from the A.R.C.
house. The next day Miss S. laughingly said at the dining table that she had
found the Col. in his bedroom in his pajamas. "hen he saw her alone, Capt.
Lyon told her she had been very indiscreet and he did not want her to go again
to Col. Cretin's rooms or to ride horseback more than once a week with the
French Major, with whom she had been riding nearly every day. Since that.time,
he stated, she has been "defiant" in her attitude toward him. Asked for
instances of defiance, he gave/none and said he did not feel she was disloyal
or doing less than faithful performance of her duties.
Miss S. had not given another occasion for such comment on the condutt.
