K 5 " a er, T 6 a AMERICAN RED CROSS a (CROIX=ROUGE AMÉRICAINE) CONFIDENTIAL. 4, rue de Chevreuse, P Fine P a r is. RECEIVED 16, July 1920. From: Chief Nurse, AvRIC.Commission to Europe. TO: Miss Clara D. Noyes, Director, Dept: of Nursing, Washington. D.C. Subject Miss Barbara Sandmaier, Enrolment No. 5489. Miss Sandmaier as you know awaited my return from Poland sailing only last Tuesday. I believe on her insistence awaiting me was based on her belief that she was being recalled from service because of the more serious charge which she was pre- pared to show me was absolutely false. You may not have serious been charges later made a statement that might be regarded as retracting told in this connection that the doctor who had ma de the all his previous statements. I stated to her as tactfully and fairly as I could that I felt she would better go home hecause she had caused criti- more cism and had been guilty of minor indiscretions whicn made her mine or less the cause of worry; that evidently her standards and not the same. With so many nurses willing for the service, were I saw no reason for retaining bex longer one who had been a cause for worry on more than one occasion. I am sorry to say that she left in rather a bad humour feeling that it was a case of pe rsonal antagonism and that she had not been dealt with fairly. Halen Helen Scott Hay, Chief Nulse, A.R.C. Commission to Europe.
