Misa Lillian L. White
Route 1, Box 1821 B.
Oakland, California
My dear Miss White:
Your letter of the 7th has been received.
I had heard, quite incidentally, that you were not well and
had been obliged to return to California, but had heard
none of the particulars. I was a little worried about it
all for some reason or other, but did not raise the question
with "ise Eldredge 8.8 I thought I would prefer to talk it
over with her. #hile I had a feeling that thinge were not
quite as they should be, I had no appreciation that matters
had taken the turn that they have.
I read your letter to Mies Eldredge with
a great deal of interest, as well as some concern, for it
does seem astonishing that anyone would use such a high-
handed method without securing some advice, at least from
the Headquarters' Committee in advance. I will talk it
over with Miss Eldredge when I see her.
I an wondering if anything has been said
to you about payment of your transportation across the
continent? I wish that I might talk it over with you, but
this of course is impossible. I am sure you understand,
however, that I am not only distressed about the matter but
somewhat concerned, not only on your account, but on
account of our Headquarters' Office, as well. If you feel
like writing to me, I should be glad of further information
on the incidents to which you refer rether casually in your
letter. Let me tell you that I admire the way in which you
have taken the whole matter, and hope that by this time the
unpleasant impression which you may have received, and which
unquestionably was a shock to you is gradually fading out
of your mind.
I am 80 glad that I came in contact with
you at those various meetings, for it has given me as a
Director of the American Nurses' Association the right to
say that I know from personal contact that you measured up
in every possible way. With best wishes, and hoping to
hear from you soon, I am
Very sincerely yours
