March 30, 1927 Miss Annie May Beddow, Sec*y., Local Committee, Red Cross Nursing Service, Norwood Hospital, Birmingham, Ala. My dear Miss Beddows We are sorry to have to roturn the application papers of Mary E. Williams, colored nurse, but please note that we cannot accopt form 1189 owing to the fact that membership in the N. O. P. H. N. does not affiliate a nurse with the American Nurses' Association. The mombership referred to in our requiro- ments is that of the Alumne, District and State Associations. As the Richmond Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, to have gone out of existence and as the information on the credential does not correspond with the information we have on file relative to this hospital, it will be necessary to obtain an additional crodential from the Superintendent of Nurses of the City Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, whore Nurse Willians received one and one-half years of her training. It is important for us to give her some type of enrollment. We are always glad to enroll colored nurses if they meet our full requirements. Therefore, I would.advise you to urge the nurse to join an Alumne Association or if she is oligible for the District Association in Alabama, to apply for that memarship before hor papers are returned to this office. Thanking you for your attention to this, I am Very truly yours, Chairman, National Committee, Red Cross Nursing Service. IFB-oc
