February 7, 1941 Miss Catherine J. Wilson, Newcomb Hospital, Vineland, New Jersey My dear Miss Wilson: I em writing to offer you an appointment to the nursing staff of the American Red Cross-Harvard Hospital Unit to be established in England. We are pleased that you are interested in this Unit, and we feel the nurses who take part have ahead of them an interesting under- taking and will bring back to this country an experience that will be most valuable in nursing. The date on which the nurses of the Unit will sail for England is still very indefinite, but we expect it will be about March 15. We shill keep you informed of any change and in the meantime advise that you not give up your present position until you hear from us again. Information regarding insurance, uniforms, personal clothing and luggage is being sent to you in the same mail. We are enclosing a revised statement concerning the Unit. As stated on this sheet, the salary of general staff nurses will be $80 a month, maintenance, travel and uniforms being in addition. The enclosed forms for your physical examination should be filled inand returned to us. If you will give the x-ray report first con- sideration and mail it to us just as soon as possible, we shall be able to make arrangements for your final physical examination by a physician appointed by Dr. Gordon, while the other forms are being completed. Your appointment to the Unit is, of course, pending a satisfactory physical examination report. Bill you please send a small photograph in uniform when you return the forms. If you have obligated yourself in any way to the Army or Navy since August 1940, we should know of this before we consider you for appointment to the Unit.
