    "ocrText": "January 27, 1942\nSPECIAL DELIVERY\nMiss Jane Mary Wilson\nAIR MAIL\n54 Riverside Drive\nNew York New York\nMy dear Miss Wilson:\nThe American Red Cross has been asked to recruit nurses for two\nemergency hospitals in Hawaii and we have had word of your interest in service\nof this kind.\nI am enclosing general information on the assignment of nurses and the\nfollowing forms which, if you are interested, should be filled out and returned\nas quickly as possible to this office:\n1. Physical examination report.\n2. Application form.\nThe report of your physical examination will, of course, have a great\ndeal to do with your acceptance for the assignment and we expect that you will\nhave a thorough examination, as a foreign assignment would be unwise unless your\nphysical condition is excellent. Please take the responsibility of impressing\nyour physician with this fact. Select your own physician and inform him that\nthe Red Cross is prepared to pay for your examination, not to exceed $5.00. His\nbill, if there is one, should be submitted to this office, in care of the Nursing\nService. Note the required immunization. Tetanus toxoid is also required but\ncan be arranged when we notify you that you have been definitely `accepted. Your\nteeth should be in good condition so that it will not be likely that you will\nneed dental work.\nThe assignment which we are offering you pending completion of satisfactory\ncredentials is for general staff duty.\nWe do not as yet have definite word of the date of the unit's leaving\nalthough it is possible that we may be asked to have the nurses ready next week.\nEven though it would be necessary for you to be making tentative arrangements\nfor release, you should not give up your position until you have not only\nreceived a definite appointment from us, but have been notified of the date on\nwhich you should be ready for assignment.\nIf on reading these instructions you are definitely interested in being\nconsidered for an assignment, will you please wire me to that effect.\nSincerely yours,\nVirginia M.
