    "ocrText": "EXTRACT FROM LETTER TO MISS BEARD FROM MISS MacLACHLAN - June 16, 1943\nMary Blackman Pinney left us in May. Her husband was sent to combat duty. She became\ndepressed and hysterical, and missed much time. She finally received word that her\nGrandmother, whom I believe brought her up, was very ill, and asked to be released.\nBefore her husband left he made considerable trouble because he wanted Mrs. Pinney\nback in the States with her people.\nMrs. Boggess left here on June 14th. She had developed a neuritis in her left arm\nand was hospitalized for some time. The physicians felt that that the climate here\nwas responsible, and advised that she return to the States immediately.\nMrs. Elizabeth Doran received word that her husband had been returned to the States\nfrom combat duty in the South Pacific and would be unable to return to combat duty,\nbut was given an instructor's position in the States. She has been very much upset\nand is making arrangements to return to the States immediately.\nGenevieve LePrestre returned to the States before I arrived in February. I do not\nknow the reason.\nWright\nAda MacIlwraith left the unit June 1st. She was unable to make adjustments to the\nwork and living conditions here. She was so disagreeable that the girls refused to\nlive with her. She had temper tantrums in the cafeteria until the waitresses refused\nto wait on her. We released her and she has taken a position in a private hospital\nwhere she can have a single room and more pleasant living conditions.\nElizabeth Wright left June 1st. The enclosed efficiency record will explain the\nreasons.\nMiss LePrestre is still at Wahiawa.I went back to my original assignment sheet which\nstated that she was to be replaced and thought perhaps I had made a mistake on my\nother work sheets. However, I have checked with Miss Clarke and she is still here,\nalso still not in very good health.\nMay Griep is ill with virus pneumonia affecting both lungs and although not in critical\ncondition she will be unable to work for some time."
