EXTRACT FROM LETTER TO MISS BEARD FROM MISS MacLACHLAN April 26, 1943
On April 9 Mr. Houghton, Special Representative for the Red Cross, presented
me a list of the nurses who are delinquent in reimbursing the Red Cross for their loans.
There were thirty-eight (38) nurses names on that list and of those there are only six
(6) whom I could really say were delinquent. These were:
Amount Due
Vera Clarke.

Helen Haylow.
300.00
Mabel Richardson
300.00
Lucile Shields
9.68
Alice Wood
17.09
Elizabeth Wright
25.00
These girls have been here long enough to have met their obligations. I have contacted
them and have not received a report from Mr. Houghton as to whether or not he has
received the money.
A MARIE CARLSON was listed. I can find no record of her having been with the
units at any time. There is an Ella Carlson who is to come, but has not yet arrived.
Katherine M. Harrison was listed as owing $28.49, and on April 14th she was
issued a refund, so there seems to be some mistake there.
