OFFICE OF CIVILIAN DEFENSE
fortoons
Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii
April 11, 1943
To:
Hospital Consultant and Supervisor
From:
Chief Nurse of Huleia Hospital Unit
Subject:
Release of Miss Wright and Miss Noonan
My dear Miss MacLachlan:
Herewith I am returning the Credentials of the nurses
who have left the Huleia Unit. I had already mailed you on
March 25th their efficiency records, which included most of
the information you have since asked for. However, I shall
rewrite them according to your form as soon as possible.
Meanwhile I have been concerned over some problems with which
I shall now acquaint you. There are two of the Huleia Unit
nurses who both Miss Wilcox and I believe ought to be re-
turned to the Mainland.
Miss Elizabeth Wright has never been satisfactory since
her arrival here. She was first at Wilcox Hospital where
she did poor work and had personality difficulties, so she
was transferred to Waimea Hospital. There she was very un-
reliable and made an even poorer personal adjustment. I
transferred her back to Wilcox - at her own request. She
has been an unsatisfactory member of their staff for three
reasons:
1.
Independability -- coming on duty late, disappearing
from wards, arranging social affairs while on duty,
and misconstructing orders. The latest and most
serious evidence of this occurred on April 8th.
In
the Wilcox nursery was an illegitimate baby - six
days old whose adoption had been arranged. Therefore,
definite orders had been left that the infant was
never to be taken out to the mother. This plan had
been discussed with all the nurses, and the bassinet
displayed a large sign to this effect. Miss Wright
"unthinkingly" took the infant out. She does not
seem to consider the offense serious.
