Major, Duncan MacCalman,
General Inspector, U.S.P.H.S.
Pacific Coast Inspection Area,
Fort Stanton, New Mexico.
My dear Major MacCalman,
In view of the previous trouble at Arrowhead it social
wise to report the following incident to you.
When I left Arrowhead for Tucson I had some dishes
silver ware and vaes in my charge that were the property of
the Pasadena Chapter, American Red Cross. This property I
packed carefully in a barrel and sent to storage in San Ber-
nardino.
Mr.S tearns, Social Service Director, A.R.C., came to
me with the information that Me. Southerd, Chief Clerk, was
trying to make trouble because this was being done. For this
reason Mr.Stearns went with me to see Mr.Wm.H.Vedder. Chair-
man, Pasadena Chapter American Red Cross, who gave Mr.Stearns
two letters, copies of which are enclosed. A short time later
on one of the nurses wrote me of seeing these dishes unpacked
and in the possession of the Material Office at Arrowhead. The
Pasadena Red Cross was notified of this and promptly took the
matter up. The barrel arrived here on March 13th, three months
after I had sent it to storage. The contents were carefully
unpacked and the following arthcles which I had packed were
missing:
6 bulbs for electric baker ( personal property )
4 inserts for flower vases
1 cup broken
1 saucer broken
4 dozen silver plated spoons. Roger Bros.1847"Cromwell"
repoint
department" one dozen were missing.
Three of the original boxes contained three dozen hosp-
ital spoons that were substituted for the silver spoons some
were marked "Medical Department". One dozen were missing.
