TREASURY DEPARTMENT
UNITED STATES
OFFICE OF
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE
MEDICAL OFFICER IN CHARGE
U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE
TUCSON, ARIZ.
HOSPITAL No. 51
February226, 1922.
Major Duncan MacCalman,
General Inspector, U.S.P.H.S.
Fort Stanton,
New Mexico.
Dear Major MacCalman,
Your letter of February 23rd has been received. In reply
you will find herewith enclosed a copy of the letter that was
sent to the Surgeon General on January 16,1922, through the
Medical Officer in Temporary Charge at this station. A carbon
copy of this letter was sent January 17th also, to Dr. Hugh S.
Cumming", marked Personal and registered. This letter contains
all the information that I have.
As yet your letter of February 23rd is the only notice that
has been taken of this matter, unless one can call my transfer
to Tucson as Assistant Chief Nurse an answer to Dr. Allen's tele-
gram to the Surgeon General, my telegram and letter to Miss Minni-
gerode of January 5th, and this letter of mine to the Surgeon
General of January 16th.
This transfer came on January 10th while we were waiting a rap
reply to our telegram our and five days after the re-
ceipt of the first telegram from Dr. Laminder, I objected to
leaving Arrowhead until a reply had been received from Washington
to the telegrams we had sent on January 5th. Major Townsend,Med-
ical Officer in Chargex Temporary Charge and Dr. Fenton, Executive
Officer tried to have me leave the same day the transfer came,
whereupon I wired a personal telegram to the Bureau atating that
I would leave January 14th if satisfactory to them and received a r
reply stating this would be satisfactory.
Until I know what is required this is all I have to say of-
ficially, except that it would seem the right thing and proper to
allow me to be present during the investigation, or before the
final conclusion is reached, as I am the person most concerned.
With Mr Southerd in New York, Mrs. Albertus in Fort Bayard
and myself in Tucson, with other changes even more vital, it seems
improbable that an investigation could uncover very much.
I thank you for your interest.
Sincerely yours,
Alma E. Wrigley,
