April 25, 1918. Miss Alma E. Wrigley, Secretary Pasadena Chapter, A.R.C. Pasadens, Calif. My dear Miss Wrigley: I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of April 11th with enclosed clipping. The Chapter Student Course as organized by you appears to possess very admirable qualities, and I am sure is worthy of general adoption. I have sent your papers to the War Department with the recommenda- tion that you are willing to take the Chief Nurse's examination. I fool sure you appreciate the point I wished to make in regard to your possible appointment. When political influence is used in behalf of a nurse or on the part of a nurse, it cahnot help but react unfavorably and place her in a false position, making her appear to depend more upon influence than upon merit. I appreciate that the average individual can rarely see the situation from the ethical standpoint of a nurse. Their interest is very frequently a matter of great embarrasement to a professional worker as they are apt to place undue emphasis upon social and financial influence. I do not question the good intentions of your friends, but I feel sure you will agree that through their efforts you were at least placed in a position that required explanation. Believe me as Very truly yours, Director, Bureau of Field Nursing Service. N/C
