Mise Alice Fitzgerald,
Siriraj Hospital,
Bangkok, Siam.
My dear Miss Fitzgerald:
Your two letters, one of August 21st
and the other of September 24th, have reached me quite safely.
I h ve heard indirectly, however, that you had been ill ith
Dengue fever and had lost thirty pounds. I am, indeed, sorry
that you have been ill, but would hesi tate to express any
sympathy for your loss of weight, providing you were interest-
ed in reducing. There is one thing in losing weight intention-
ally or losing it because one is ill, and I hope that the lose
of thirty pounde does not mean that you re not making a good
recovery.
I hope the Nightingale Medal will
reach you safely. 1 have begun to feel, however, that it is
an "empty honor" to receive it. Perhape I told you that I
attended a dinner at Mon. Ador's in Geneva, and that some
four or five ladies around the table were wearing Nightingale
Medals (it never occurred to me to wear mine) and out of this
group I do not think that any of them were graduate nurses,
with the exception of Mlle. Parmentier from Belgium. Even
Minel. Hussein Bey, from Constantinople, who has never studied
nursing, but who perhapa did something during the war for
the Turkish soldiers, but is now connected with
the Red Crescent had one, When I think of the purpose
for which the money WAS given, and that it was to be restricted
to graduate, trained nurses, I muet say that I cannot help
feeling a bit disturbed by the turn that the bestowal of these
Medele has taken.
The check for your membership
dues has been received and duly recorded.
You will, I am sure, be interested
in hearing that the old Advisory Committee on Nursing of the
L.O.R.C.S. Hse been abolished, at least I have been so informed
by Miss Reimann, and that she 88 Secretary of the I.C.N. has
been asked to serve on a new committee. Who the other members
may be I have no idea. Miss Fox is away, 80 I have not had
chence to ask her whether she has been informed of the reorganiza-
