Silver Cross presented to Frank B. Fay Lent by the American Red Cross Museum. This engraved cross set in a carved wooden laurel wreath was given to Frank B. Fay, who supervised the Sanitary Commission's Auxiliary Relief Corps, in 1865. Early in the war, Fay had worked independently to care for wounded soldiers in the Army of the Potomac. In late 1863, he organized the Auxiliary Relief Corps for the USSC which played an important role in tending sick and wounded troops at the Union Army hospital bases situated at Fredericksburg, Port Royal, White House and City Point, Virginia.
