BERRY GORDY
Gordy is the founder of Motown, the hit-making enterprise that nurtured the careers of Diana Ross
& the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, The Four Tops,
Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5, Martha and the Vandellas and many other music
greats. The "Motown Sound" reached out across a racially divided, politically and socially charged
country to transform popular music. Gordy's unparalleled contribution to music and popular culture
is chronicled in his autobiography, To Be Loved: The Music, The Magic, The Memories of Motown.
JOHN LEGEND
This American recording artist, musician, actor and social activist is the recipient of nine
GRAMMY Awards, and was named to the 2009 TIME 100 list of the world's most influential
people. His work includes collaborations with artists including Kanye West, Alicia Keys
and Jay-Z. Legend's latest album, Wake Up!, is a collaboration with The Roots featuring an
homage to the soulful music of the '60s and '70s. In 2007, Legend founded the "Show Me
Campaign," a grassroots movement dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty.
SMOKEY ROBINSON
Legendary singer, songwriter and producer, Robinson's honey-coated voice connects with
listeners in a highly personal way. This Motown legend has earned 37 Top 40 hits during his
career, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received the Soul Train Music Award
for Career Achievement, the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, and been a Songwriters
Hall of Fame and Kennedy Center honoree. Robinson's latest album, Now and Then, was
released in 2010 and was nominated this year for an NAACP Image Award.
ROBERT SANTELLI
Santelli, a leading musicologist and music educator, is the executive director of The GRAMMY
Museum. Prior to joining that organization, Santelli was the vice president of education and
public programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, before becoming CEO and
artistic director at the Experience Music Project in Seattle. Santelli is a longtime member of The
Recording Academy, as well as founder and former president of the National Music Museum
Alliance. A noted blues and rock historian, Santelli has authored and edited more than a dozen
books, including The Bob Dylan Scrapbook.
THE GRAMMY MUSEUM
Paying tribute to music's rich cultural history, this one-of-a-kind, 21st-century Museum explores
and celebrates the enduring legacies of all forms of music, the creative process, the art and
technology of the recording process, and the history of the premier recognition of excellence
in recorded music-the GRAMMY Award. The GRAMMY Museum features 30,000 square feet
of interactive and multimedia exhibits located within L.A. LIVE, the downtown Los Angeles
sports, entertainment and residential district. Through thought-provoking and dynamic public
and educational programs and exhibits, guests will experience music from a never-before-seen
insider perspective that only The GRAMMY Museum can deliver.
