Cdr. W. R. Anderson

in the Division of Reactor Development, Atomic Energy Commission,
Washington, D. C. and on April 30, 1957 was ordered to duty as
Commanding Officer of the USS NAUTILUS, the first atomic powered
submarine. On June 19, 1957 he relieved Captain Eugene P.
Wilkinson, First Commanding Officer of the NAUTILUS, during that
submarine's visit to Seattle, Washington.
In addition to the Bronze Star Medal and the Commendation
Ribbon, both with Combat "V," Commander Anderson has the American
Defense Service Medal, with star; the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
Medal, with three stars; the American Campaign Medal; World War
II Victory Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Submarine
Combat Pin, with one silver star and three bronze stars; the
Korean Service Medal; the United Nations Service Medal; and the'
Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Commander Anderson is married to the former Yvonne Etzel of
Newark, Delaware, and has two sons, Michael D. and William R.
Jr. His official address is Bakerville, Tennessee. His current
address is Mystic, Connecticut.
