WOMEN'S DIVISION REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE 1625 EYE STREET, N. W. WASHINGTON 6, D. C. 1959 TOP WOMEN APPOINTMENTS IN THE EISENHOWER ADMINISTRATIONS (1953 - 1959) During two Administrations, President Dwight D. Eisenhower has honored women by 217 high-level appointments to the diplomatic service, the federal establishment, and policy-making committees, commissions and boards ...... 217 Because certain individuals have received two or more appoint- ments the number of women so designated comes to 175. President Eisenhower, according to this record, has appointed more women to high-level positions than any other Chief Executive in the nation's history. In addition, during the Eisenhower Administrations women have been accorded notable recognition by Cabinet officials and Agency heads. Any list of such key staff appointments changes frequently; some 190 women are shown on the current roster. * 190 For example, Secretary of Defense Neil H. McElroy has named 45 outstanding women from all fields to serve on the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (see page 20), while 49 others have been selected by the Commission on Civil Rights for membership on State Advisory Committees (see page 22). All told, at lease 407 women have been given top recognition during the two Eisenhower Administrations. They are listed on the follow- ing pages. Political affiliation, wherever the information is available, is indicated by (R) and (D) before the name. 407 PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTEES Page 2 DEPARTMENTAL, AGENCY OR CAREER APPOINTMENTS Page 13 WOMEN APPOINTEES WHOSE ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED OR WHO HAVE RESIGNED Page 24 * This is aside from advancement in the career civil service surveyed in "Women in the Federal Service," another section of this report. - 1 - SELL ASPIRT Eisenhower Women Appointments 1959 PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTEES (R) ABEL, Mrs. Hazel H.
