SUBJECT: Political Developments in the Levant States. DEPARTMENT Ewedin in TO : Commanding Officer, PWB, AFHQ. I. DISCUSSION. Political operatives of the "D" Section have reported a mysterious leftist movement of considerable political and religious significance in the Levant country, particularly in the hill sections south of Jerusalem, and in the province of Galilee, near Lake Genesaret. The information is based upon two letters which have come into our hands, one allegedly written by a Doctor Lucas, who represents a growing Greek element, and the other by a simple fisherman named Matthiew, who has a strange power as a leader of the bourgeoisie. The letters (see Tabs A and B attached) tell of the birth of a child to humble parents of noble strain, while they were sojourning in the village of Bethlehem. The birth was coinci- dent with certain astronomical manifestations, including the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, and provoked a profound impression on the people of the land. Their accounts mention a strange appearance of a celestial chorus, which they say announced that the child was the promised Messiah of the Jews, and sang of an era of good will among men everywhere. It appears, on investigation, that this Jew was crucified sometime later by Italian soldiers, in an effort to appease certain corrupt ecclesiastical leaders of the Jews, but that his simple teaching of good will has spread to the far corners of the earth. II. RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended that the anniversary of the birth of this child be recognized; that a measure of his good will be spread abroad, and that the Commander-in-Chief bestow upon you and yours, and upon your friends, the fullest measure of joy for the coming year.
