CONSOLIDATED STATEMENT

OFFICES OF THE WAR CABINET
GREAT GEORGE STREET, S.W.1
lst. September, 1941.
Dear Mr. Stacy May,
With reference to the revised Admiralty
figures for 1942 which have been incorporated in the
Consolidated Statement, the following are certain notes
of general character which have not been put in the
Statement, to which I should like to draw your attention.
1. Naval guns other than A.A.
Reduction of output in this category is due to
later ships of existing and projected programmes being
armed with combined HA/LA armaments, the guns for such
ships being shown under AA weapons. Productive capacity
thus released has been transferred to manufacture of
AA guns and also Army Coast Defence guns.
2. Naval Ammunition other than A.A. over 20 mm.
Reduction in output in this category
due to higher proportion of A.A. guns being manufactured.
Productive capacity thus released has been transferred
to manufacture of A.A. ammunition.
3. Depth Charges.
Reduction in output is due to stocks having
been largely built up in 1941. These figures may be
expected to vary as manufacture is adjusted to
meet expenditure. Surplus capacity is transferred to
manufacture of other munitions.
All the other notes are included in the
Statement itself.
Yours sincerely,
Stacy May, Esq.,
United States Embassy,
Grosvenor Place,
W.1.
