Dist. :1941 Box 146 PSF Sepense Contracts file THE WHITE HOUSE personalited MAY 24 10 04 AM '41 LISTING OF RECEIVED MAJOR DEFENSE CONTRACTS AWARDED BY WAR AND NAVY DEPARTMENTS APRIL 1941 SUPPLEMENT CONTRACTS OF $50,000 AND OVER OFFICE OF PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT BUREAU OF RESEARCH AND STATISTICS STACY MAY, CHIEF - MAY 21, 1941 INTRODUCTORY NOTE This listing covers all public-knowledge prime contract awards of the War and Navy Departments reported to the Bureau of Research and Statistics between April 1 and April 30, 1941, excepting awards with a gross value of less than $50,000, and excepting awards for fuels and foodstuffs. All directives issued to Army and Navy es- tablishments are excluded, but awards made by those establishments to private industry are included. The purpose of this listing is to show the geographic distri- bution of the direct impact of defense contracts. Construction contracts as well as awards for manufactured goods and raw materials are included. An effort has been made to determine the point of final manu- facture or assembly and to allocate the individual contracts to cities on this basis rather than on the basis of the headquarters of the contracting company. Also, where the contractor has acted as an agent for a manufacturing concern, it is the name and loca- tion of the manufacturing company performing the work under the contract that is used in this listing. Subcontracts, except in this sense, are not included. This listing supplements the one covering the period June 1, 1940 through March 31, 1941. As indicated by the table of contents, the contracts have been arranged alphabetically by company within Federal Reserve Districts, with War and Navy Department contracts shown separately.
