This city also is the city of a\nthousand churches whose ministry\nis to inculcate brotherhood among\nmen and spread the idea first enun-\nciated by shepherd peasants on\nBethlehem hills that peace on earth\nis tied up with good-will among men.\nThe churches, the educational in-\nLAW OFFICES\nstitutions and the various social\nagencies all have their winter sched-\nALBERT T. Bauerle, an at-\ntorney of this city, in his book\n\"Gauranty of Lasting Peace.\"\nHe insists, however, that a United\nNations victory must take place or\nanarchy will prevail. It is suggested\nMy dear Mr. President:-\nthat the peoples of the world be\nrepresented directly in the U. P. N.\nby \"outstanding men of greater in-\nJust a line to express my great personal\nternational vision, interest in gen-\nF\neral humanity and love of justice,\nrather than prime ministers, foreign\nB\nsatisfaction upon reading of the estimable work performed by\nsecretaries and fuehrers.\nb.\nSaving of Millions of Lives\nR\nyou and Mr. Hull leading to post-war security, as it involves a\n\"An early armistice,\" writes Mr.\nt1\nBauerle, \"if asked for by the Axis\no]\nnations, and providing that a world\nsi\nsubject SO dear to the hearts of millions of the peoples of the\nagency for peace is already operat-\ng\ning, will mean the saving of millions\nta\nof lives and casualties, from war-\nentire world.\nIt is difficult to even estimate what it\nfare, plagues, starvation, disease\na:\nand misery; less refugees, absence\nC\nof destruction of property, valued at\ncl\nreally means to the average family in this and the eastern con-\nbillions; the wholesale reduction in\ntaxes, as well as the avoidance of a\nW\ndepression of which the one of over\ntinent, and I feel satisfied, apart from all politics, no one\nII\na decade was only a sample.\n\"A total war or fight to the fin-\nish will prove nothing, will gain\nwill ever deny you a fair share of immortality so well earned\nnothing and will not end all war; the\nnations will become bankrupt, star-\nti\nby you in the great and international work for humanity.\nvation will become rampant, and\ncl\nthe eventual victor will be depres-\ndo\nsion and high taxation.\"\nMy heart is and has always been interested\nAll nations, he urges, should write\nC\nthe peace because he fears that a\npeace treaty written by the repre-\nC\nin the peace of the world, and as you may possibly remember,\nsentatives of the victor nations will\nbe one-sided and likely to be full of\nC\nhate and venegance. The whole\nsome months ago I became the author of \"Guaranty of Lasting\nworld he insists, must be-represent-\nC\ned in the writing of the peace, and\nat the peace table there cannot be\nPeace, If a copy of which I forwarded to you last spring, You\nany specially privileged nations,\nd\nraces, religions and colors.\nHe further urged that each nation\nC\nmay have had an opporunity to glance at its contents, and if so,\nreprésented in the United Peace Na-\ntions should see to it that the men\nA\nwho represent them should be men\nI would greatly appreciate an honest and frank expression of\nwhose thoughts do not dwell upon\npower politics, balance of power, his\nown country's selfish interests or\nhis own interests.\nyour valued opinion thereon.\nInternational Police Force\nAn international police force in\nI sincerely hope that your life may be long\nwhich all the soldier-policemen\ntions and swear allegiance alone to\nforgo their allegiance to any na-\nA\nand further useful to your country, and full of further honors,\nthe U. Beresford.\nThe Honorable\nThe Secretary of State,\nWashington, D.C.\nSir,\nI have the honor to enclose a letter presenting to\nthe President certain prints of pictures painted by\nMr. Frank E. Beresford, who is now working with the\nU. S. Army Forces in this country. These prints, which\nare of pictures of American officers and air force units\nin this country, are sent as a separate accompaniment to\nthis despatch. Mr. Beresford, who is an artist of repute,\nis an admirer of the United States and it is understood\nthat he is giving his services free to the U.S. Army.\nMr. Beresford thought the President might be interested\nin these prints, particularly since he accepted a copy of\nan earlier picture forwarded by Ambassador Bingham in\n1936, which the President acknowledged in a letter to\nMr. Beresford.
