Dear President Roosevelt:
as
I am a Jewish boy, six and a half years old and
I am sending you a Mezzuzah as a Channukah present. If you do not know
what Channukah is it is the Feast of Dedication, which the Jewish peo-
ple began to celebrate on Tuesday, December 12th. And if you do not know
what a Mezzuzah is, here is what it is. It has Hebrew writing in it and on
the outside it has the word "Shaddai", which means God.
I you that you will be well and happy and that
your wife will be well too, as always. And I hope that you will like the
Mezzuzah and your wife will too. And I hope that you will have a good
time in Washington. If you want to, you can hang the Mezzuzah on your
watch-chain, or on your door. You can do anything you want to do with
the Mezzuzah, only do not throw it out, because it has God's word on it.
Best wishes to you all from,
Your friend,
Barech

My dear Mr Roosevelt----
I am sending you this little "chest" made perhaps in the
Twelth Century, or perhaps ,before, I do not know exactly
when the "old lime work" became "a lost art" The only history
I have of it, is that it came from one of the Monasterje's
in France, un-earthed during the "World War " ---- This I do
know ,that one of the bravest soldiers that ever dared ,death,
for love of Country, brought two of these little chests to me-
So here is one, for the bravest Soldier that ever "battled "
misery, dispair and over-whelming depression, forthis Country
and her people-
God bless you always----

I will appreciate if you could arrange
to have one of the White House photographers to take
a photograph of my truck delivering the celery, which
will be Tuesday morning, January 30th, between 9:30 to

to have a memorandum of the occasion, because I am
going to send the President celery every Thanksgiving,

is in the White House.
I will appreciate very much if you will

writing 2,871 letters on a single grain

tional "Believe It Or Not" contest.
.ystone met with an accident on a
railroad when he was 18 years old,
breaking his hip, both pelvis bones,
right arm and left ankle, and four
fingers were amputated from his left
hand. Doctors gave him only a few
hours to live, but slightly more than
a month later he walked from the
hospital unassisted, and a year later,
he was playing baseball with an arti-
ficial hand of his own construction.
A few years ago Blystone broke the
existing record of 400 letters held by
a Hindoo, by writing 1,200 letters on
a rice grain. Soon thereafter he set
another record of 1,615 01 a single
grain, the record contained on page

Honorable Franklin D.Rosevelt,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr.Rosevelt;-
Noticing that your birthday and
mine fall on the same day, thought I would write you
a short letter.
I was born on January 30th, 1877 in
Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, one of a family of eight children:
seven are still living and quite near me and are to-
gether quite a lot.
I did not vote for you but if you
were up for election to-day I surely would.
At the Fellowship class in the Central
Congregational Church, Lynn, The Rev Garfield Morgan
gave a very interesting talk about yourself, he said
in part, you do not necessarily need to be a good
Democrat to appreciate the wonderful work our
president is doing or the tremendous strain he has
been under since assuming office.
I distributed calenders early in this month
with a very fine picture of you on it, everybody was
pleased with it and we have had many send in for one,
I will try to send you one under seperate cover.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday and a successful

Dear Beloved President;
Along the Arctic tundra I first saw your name on the trail
one day and I decided that we needed a New Deal. So I said
to my lead dog, "Klondike," : "What do you say, Old Timer,
that we go to the great outside (which, In Alaska, is the
States), as we cannot vote up here and cast our ballot for
this great American, Franklin D. Roosevelt."
"Klony" looked up at me and said: "Woof, woof,' which, in
Eskimo language of our four-footed friends means, "Yes."
So we took the last boat from Nome and after a terrible
ten day story trip, landed in Seattle. Then on to the hilly
streets of "Frisco," where we took the Golden State Limited to
St. Paul and landed right in the midst of the start of the
overpowering Democratic landslide. And I helped to start the slide.
The committee fell in love with "Klony;" glorified him with a
Democratic blanket bearing the legend: 'Alaska Wants Roosevelt #
And so did I and everybody else in this great country of the
North -- and that's why I'm sending you a token of appreciation
from we Alaskans -- a photograph of a great dog, for a great man
and on a great day.
You may be interested to know that this brave Alaskan husky is one of
two malamutes ever to enter the crater of an active volcano.
Klondike descended into the great Aniakchek, accompanied by Father
Hubbard, the Glacier Priest. And the only ill effects of the
venture -- a feat which scientists and geologists for hundreds of
years have striven to attain, was a pair of blistered paws.
And since then Klondike has helped to carry the mail between Nome
and Point Barrow; has been "Master of Ceromonies" at the Byrd
exhibit in Chicago, where we will return after swining around
the eastern part of the country during the coming spring.
And so, beloved President, Klondike and I salute you -- and in
the language of the natives, we say, "Mush on, and many happy
returns of the day.
Faithfully,

Dear Sir:
I hope you recall my letter of November 35 in
which I referred to my son's N.R.A. suit, which is
commute with our Presidents ideas. One of my great-
est desire is to have this child present Mr.
Roosevelt with a little gift for his birthday dressed
in his costume. This gift is composed of the Eagles.
I have also a daughter, who is five years of age.
She represents Betsy ROSS, the dress she wears is also
made of eagles, and she would like to deliver to the
FIRST LADY OF THE LAND, in person, this gift.
I am sure that this would prove entertaining and
this display would only take a short time.
I would gladly come at any time to your convenience.
Kindly advise me whether or not I may make this trip
before the 30th.
Enclosed you will find what we call the "Original

I would appreciate this very much.

The President has asked me to thank you
on behalf of himself and Mrs. Roosevelt, for
the lovely pillows you sent.
I am sorry that I cannot be of any help
to you in securing admissi to the Naval

Enclosure.
Feb. 6, 1933
Dear Mr. McIntyre,
Received your letter of January 30. It was a great
pleasure for me to receive so immediate a reply. I was
more than sorry that my children were not able to present
these gifts to Mr. and Mrs Roosevelt, but maybe you can
explain matters more clearly.
I have enclosed two photographs to show the resident
that I am 100% with him. I would like to know what he
thinks of my work, which commutes with his ideas. One of
the two photos will show how I make my N.R.A. novelties,
in beautiful colors which I have made partly in my spare
time. I am not able to sell this merchandise in Baltimore
but perhaps I would be admitted to the Naval Academy if
I had a signature from Washington. I am sure that I will
have a chance here as I am sadly in need of the money.
These photographs were taken for showing them to the
President. After they have been seen I would appreciate
it very much if you would take the trouble to returned
them.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Doris Dermer

Dear Mr. President:
I am sending you herewith a portrait of
yourself which I have done in oil. I am sending it to you as
a token of sincere appreciation for the relief I received from
my employment under the C.W.A. It expresses but a small measure
of my profound gratitude. Although I have never had any instruc-
tion in art, it is through painting that I can best express my-
self. Under these circumstances, will you overlook its patent
defects?
I am thirty-nine years old and my family consists
of my wife, five minor children and my mother-in-law. For three
years I was unemployed; I was helpless to alleviate the suffering
of my loved ones. It was not until you became our leader and in
the greatness of your heart found room not only for the great of
our nation but also for the lowly that help came to me. Then,
because of your high ideals; your determination to help every man,
no matter what his station in life, work came to me. I have been
employed as a painter in one of our local schools.
I am again a self-respecting person with hopes and
ideals and with, what should be every man's right, the opportunity
to earn an honest living for himself and his loved ones.
I and my family are most grateful to you for what
has, indeed, been a Godsend to us.
Respectfully yours,
Charles DicVardo

Dear Mr. Howe:
In reference to the attached letter may I say
that I was pleased to hear from you although disappointed
that you had not received the picture.
From your letter I assume you expected to find
the picture enclosed in my letter. I trust there is some
misunderstanding and hasten to advise you that the picture
was mailed under separate cover. It required about a month's
labor, was framed, under glass, and shipped in a wooden con-
tainer approximately 18" X 24". Extreme care was taken in
packing and shipping to avoid mistakes. My name and address
are inscribed on the back of the picture.
Having read of the tremendous amount of mail re-
ceived daily and appreciative of your difficult task, I trust
the picture is mislaid, not lost.
May I have a reply to your convenience?
Very truly yours,
Thomas a.Dumont
