To our President,
On January 30 I mailed you a copy of my novel "Definite
Youth". I have taken this liberty upon my-self with hopes that you shall
find a spare moment in your busy world to read it, or part.
The first half of the novel is fictious and the later
half deals with a lot of what our young american people are thinking, I
am twenty-four, mingled with fiction to keep the story moving properly.
My ambition is to be a real diplomat in any field and I have tried to
write the last few chapters in this manner; they deal with possible
political set-ups which have been spoken of by some at random. Many of
the ideas put forth are not my own but they do show what some americans
think; I could not personally endorse all of them because they are contrary
to my views. However I do believe that all view in the novel are worth
a true americans consideration.

Dear Mr. President:
I am just a humble widow with an only son of military
age working in a tailor shop earning a living for my
son and myself. Yet, I have been watching your pro-
gress with great interest.
As I sit in my shop and think of what marvelour things
you are doing for the workers and people like me, I
also wonder what I, a simple worker, can do for such
a great person. Something that no one else had ever
seen yet worthy of such a noble heart. Finally, it
struck me that a basket of pumpkin seeds had never
before been concocted and sould be both novel and unique.
It took several weeks to complete it but it was worth
the energy. I only hope that it contained not only riches
but health, happiness, and faith -faith of the American
people and others peoples in a government such as you
are striving for - a democracy.
I believe that had you been in a less ignorant envirn-
ment than the United States you would have been termed
as a God for our noble deeds. But we of the United
States are too educated to call you that so we elect
you to a sacred office -that of President for a third
term. Something the greatest men in history have
never been able to attain. And, I might say, you are
doing a splended job!
For example, your work for victims of infantile para-
lysis has made your birthday almost equal (in popularty)
to that of Jesus Christ. Who knows -perhaps in time
yours too will become a National holiday. I sencerely
hope so!!
