ELKS SEATTLE, WASHINGTON October 18, 1937 My dear Noble and President: Sharte I am taking the liberty and the privilege of sending you these few lines, with reference to your trip out here on the Coast, and desire to say that the people of Washington and the Coast approve of every step that you have taken with reference to war and peace. I am sure, as your mother has said, you desire to serve all the people, regardless of religion or politically, in any manner. After living here in Seattle for twenty-seven years, from my personal observation and contact with the Orientals in Seattle and on the Coast, I can/see that they are in any way benefit to the people on the Coast or the United States. They are strong for Japan, who we know desires to control that great nation and homeloving people of China, and if they ever do, the United States will have to pay some of the debt created by Japanese aggression. For your personal information, the Japanese here in Seattle control a good deal of our industrial life. They own all kinds of business, especially big hotels, dëpartment stores and wholesale grocery houses and big business in Tacoma, and they control the fruit business of the Coast. They are here to get all they can out of the U.S. I presume you are familiar with these conditions. Now, before closing, I am sending you a jar of face cream, for massaging the face, hands and body. This cream creates circulation and removes wrinkles, and makes a beautiful skin. And if you will use this jar every night and every morning, you will find it beneficial. I got this idea from my mother fifty years ago, and it is made from mutton tallow and the purest of olive 0115 I send it to you not with the idea to commercialize it in any way. I can't forget you ever, of the kindness through you and the Home Loan bank in Chicago that made that loan to my daughter on her home, and she's paying back and making good. MONTREAL CAN. OFFICE OF PERSONAL B. MARCUSE CORRESPONDENCE January 5th-1938 Miss Le Hand, Secretary to the President, / White House, Washington, D. C. Dear Miss Le Hand:- I am happy to have your acknowledg- ment of my little effort, and pleased to see that the President received same and I hope that I did not impose on him by sending it. Knowing that he is a Stamp Collector the same as I am and having a very large collection which I have been making for the last 40 years, I am wondering whether the President would be interested in receiving some local deliveries. Some collectors do not bother with this type of stamp, others make a specialty thereof and the general collector might be interested therein. I am not sure however whether the President is a general collector or is specializing. With my many interests such as collecting data on Abraham Lincoln, Flying, Stamp Collec- ting, etc., I have been more or less lax with my stamps. Knowing however that the President is very active in his collecting, I am wondering whether he would accept if he is interested therein, with my compliments, a very nice collection of local deliveries. I do not guarantee they are all authentic, but, in any case, they have a considerable value from a point of view of history of the Post Office Department before general stamps were in effect. At this time, may I extend to you best wishes for the coming year.
