The mass\nis usually the two sense development.\nIf our Mayors and their sub-ordinates were\nso evolved they could make an analysis of the county they rule,\nand then this submitted to the Governor of his State, and then\nall these \"want slips\" (as they use in the large stores here,)\nsubmitted to you and the Senate, you might know just where the\nfault lies. I worked in the French room at Mandel's here (hats)\nwhen I was trying to help other people, Mr. Mandel said he never\nknew up in his office what was wanted down stairs until we took\nnote of everything people wanted, and so it would be if they took\na survey of their counties, and in general knew their people.\nTolerance and forbearance right now is the\nkeynote to keeping our standards, and the Christ S words \"do unto\nothers, etc.\" is to be kept in mind. And I heard: 'Behold\nrealed by Mary Immaculate herself re-\nthe symbol of graces I will shed on those who\nCatherine Labouré. then a novice in the Mother- to\nask for them.' Then the oval formed around\nHouse of the Daughters of Charity, Paris.\nthe Blessed Virgin and I read in letters of gold:\nTo her Our Blessed Mother came first\n'O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us\nthe night of July 18. 1830. To quote Blessed on\nwho have recourse to thee'\nCatherine's own words: \"That night at cleven-\nthirty, I heard my name called three times.\npon drawing my bed curtains I beheld a\nchild of four or five years who said to me:\nP.7.\nyou! Come to the Chapel. The Blessed Virgin awaits\n\"I dressed hastily and followed him to the\nsanctuary. I sare a Lady descend the steps of\n1-m\nthe altar and seat herself in the chair used by\nour Director. Then I sprang forward. throwing\nmyself on my knecs on the steps of the altar.\nI rested my hands on the knees of the Blessed\nVirgin. She said to me: \"My child, I am going\nto charge you with a mission.' I am unable to\nsay how long a time I remained kneeling at\nher side and listening to her instructions.\"\nP.7.\nT\nHIS preparatory visitation was followed by\ntwo others: but we are mainly concerned\nFIRST APPARITION OF MARY IMMACULATE\nwith the one which took place on November 27.\nTO BLESSED CATHERINE\n-B\n1830. the day we observe as the birthday of\n\"The vision reversed, and I beheld the letter\nthe Miraculous Medal. The gift of health, the gift of Faith, the\ngift of repentance-reports of such blessings\nbegan to pour in from all sides; and soon the\nlittle Medal of the Immaculate Conception\nreceived from the voice of grateful millions\nthe name it now bears, the \"MIRACULOUS\nP.7.\nMEDAL.\"\n***\nD\nEAR Member, you in a certain sense were\npresent in that Chapel at Paris on that\nevening in 1830 when Our Blessed Mother\nAPPARITION OF MARY IMMACULATE\nTO BLESSED CATHERINE\nT\nHIS order of Our Blessed Mother was not\ncarried out until after two years. During\nall that time the strange story of Blessed\nP.7.\nCatherine was under scrutiny. Was it only a\ndream, a trick of the imagination? Or did the\nMother of God really and physically appear to\nthis humble Daughter of Charity? The inves-\ntigation was made by the most severe, the most\nsearching judges in the world-an ecclesiasti-\ncal court. The rules imposed on this court com-\npelled the judges to disregard the whole story\nunless they were of a certainty convinced that\nit was truly supernatural.
