August 2, 1991
Honorable George Bush
The President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
On Thursday, September 12, 1991, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Disabled
American Veterans (DAV) will host a special recognition ceremony for those men
and women who were injured or disabled during Operation Desert Storm.
We would be honored if you could share this special evening with us. As
disabled veterans of this nation's past wars, we in the DAV feel a special bond
with these servicemen and women. It's a bond we would like you to share as we
recognize their service and sacrifice at special ceremonies to be held at the
DAV National Service and Legislative Headquarters.
The outpouring of national support and appreciation for the fighting men
and women of Operation Desert Storm has been unmatched in recent history. Much
has been made of both America's superior military technology, and her highly
trained and motivated troops. As a result of this nation's preparedness and her
leadership, the casualties were relatively slight.
But for those who were injured or disabled, the war's end has not eased the
pain of recuperation or shortened the long road to rehabilitation. We believe
this special recognition will lend a big morale boost to not only those in atten-
dance, but those hundreds of others who are still occupying military and VA
hospital beds.
I hope you can find time in your busy schedule to make this a truly nation-
al demonstration of support for our injured and disabled Operation Desert Storm
troops.
Sincerely,
CLEVELAND Chneland Jordan
National Commander
