Dear
Thank you for your recent letter to the White House regarding
Special Assistant to the President Doug Wead.
Over the years Doug has been a valuable member of the President's
team and has served him faithfully. For several months, however,
Doug has been discussing with a variety of people, and specifically
with me, his decision to leave his White House position to pursue
other avenues. During that period of time, several options were
presented to Doug and discussed.
A short time ago, a mutual decision was made that Doug would
end his tenure here as of September 1. Both Doug and others here
recognize that there have been rumors and innuendos regarding his
decision to leave. None of these has any basis in truth.
The President has named Ms. Lee Ann Metzger as Special Assistant
to the President for Public Liaison. Lee Ann shares your values
and concerns. You will find that she brings a wealth of experience
to the job and will be a valuable addition to our team.
Thank you again for taking the time to write and share your
thoughts with us.

Dear Mr. President:
I am writing to protest strongly the firing of Mr. Doug Wead
from the White House staff. The reason for this firing as
reported in the news media is that he openly criticized
those liberal elements of your staff who seemingly are
giving you bad advice.
I believe Mr. Wead when he defends you saying that you are
"a man who lives as well as speaks family values". I
believe there are those on your staff who for whatever
reasons are willing to give in to those outside liberal
forces who have never represented traditional family values
in any way and certainly have never supported you or your
policies. I am appalled that those who would give you
advice would give credence to the homosexual community,
especially inviting them in your name to any White House
function.
I beg you, Mr. President, to quickly correct this wrong done
Mr. Wead. I also would ask that you continue to uphold the
family and traditional family values. I also plead with you
not to reject that large base of support you receive from
the conservative evangelical community.
Respectfully,

I WAS SHOCKED TO HERE THAT MR DOUG WEAD HAD BEEN FIRED

IT WAS A MISTAKE.
I THINK By ASKING THE HOMOSEXUALS TO THE WHITE HOUSE

PLEASE RECONSIDER THE ACTIONS TAKEN AGAINST MR. WEAD

Dear President Bush,
My name is Michael Scott Amerson. I am a Republican
precinct cheerman. I am writing this letter to express my
disappointment in your actions last week regarding the firing
of Douglass Weeden. As I am sure you are aware the Republican
platform does not condone homosexual behavior or that life
style. It seems you are crumbling under pressure from the
homosexual lobbiest and their associates. I for one will not
support your reelection campaign in 1992 if you do not show
the majority of American opinion in your decisions while in
office this term. If you continue to perform in the manner
you did last week, you might ought to change party assocation
and join in the Democratic Party platform. This platform
supports all right wing behavior which runs directly again the
true Christian beliefs and teachings. The majority of Americans
are very upset with your actions. If you want to heard a
true poll of public opinion listen to Marlon Maddoux's show
called Point of View which is programmed on your local Christian
radio station. Please take notice of this letter and do not
act in such a foolish way in the future.
Sincerely,

Honorable President Bush,
As a member of the Republican party and a strong supporter
of you Mr. Bush, as well as a small business owner I would like
to commend your work in our Government. My prayers are with you
on a daily basis as I realize that there must be great pressure
and stress that comes with such a responsible position.
Mr. Bush, I have recently learned of the firing your special
assistant, Mr. Doug Wead. I also understand that you were not
directly responsible in this action. I also understand that the
reason for which he was fired was simply for advising you, and
rightly so, against inviting an extremist Homosexual group of
men and women who greatly opposed you in your last election and
will oppose you again in the next election, to be your special
guest at a bill signing. Moral issues aside, you know as well as
I do, that you simply don't invite just any group to a bill
signing simply because they would like to be there! A bill
signing invitation should not be extended to an extremist group
like this who so apposes you and the moral values that this
country was founded upon. I contend that the reasoning behind
the firing of the Honorable Mr. Doug Wead are unfounded and is
simply another attack on any form of morality and Christian
rights and values that this country was founded upon. It is my
prayer, Mr. President, that you will not simply let this matter
quietly be passed by and that you will make a firm stand against
this attack against YOU, your GOD, and your COUNTRY!
Thank you for your quick and firm action in this matter.
Michael Sincerely, Janett

Dear Mr. President,
I realize you are presently preoccupied with matters
on foriegn shores, but I feel a battle has begun in our own
land that is just important. That is the battle of morality.
I was extremely distressed when I learned you recently
embraced the homosexual community and spurned the Christian
ethic by dismissing special assistant Doug Wead.
Since we shall know them by their fruit future support
from me will be based on the Christian stance you take.
I will remember your decision making in my prayers

Dear President Bush,
I am greatly distressed to hear of the firing of Doug Weed. I
believe Mr. Weed held a very important position in your
administration as the liaison for the Christian community. I also
believe that it was this community that has supported and helped
elect you to the Presidency. The homosexual community did not
support you and, I suspect, will not help elect you if you decide
to run for a second term. The stand that Mr. Weed took merely
reflected this fact.
I hope you will deal with Mr. Weed's superior, and ask him to re-
think his decision.
Thank you.

Dear Mr. President:
I am writing to indicate my displeasure over the firing of
Doug Mead, Sprcial Assistant to the President for Public
Liaison, for his opposition to inviting homosexual and lesbian
respresentatives to the White House.
Mr. Wead, an evangelical Christian and a consertive represents
a large block of voters who supported you in the election
because of your own statements promising a committment to
traditional family values. Certainly the homosexual community
did not put you in the White House.
As a result, I strongly urge you to reconsider this decision.
Very truly yours,

August 7, 1990
Mr. President,
I was extremely disappointed to hear that Mr. Doug Wead
was dismissed from his duties as your religious liaison. He
spoke for me and for many of my peers. Is there anyone left,
in this present administration, that will be able to speak out
and take a stand for what is moral and right for the people of
our nation without the fear of losing his livelihood? Where is
the voice that will speak for me now?
I do not approve of the current trend that seems to have
taken hold on our nation's leaders. This administration has
proven to be sympathetic toward those groups that are bringing
their immorality out of the closet and are trying to force the
rest of America to accept it.
I am requesting that you take immediate action to reinstate
Mr. Wead to his previous position. I fully agree with the
statements that he has made in the past.
I chose not to be associated with the Democratic Party
because of their embracement of certain special interest groups.
There is no way that I want to be identified with anyone that
approves of homosexuality, baby killing and any other kind of
immorality. The Republican Party, namely this administration,
has proved to be an embarrassment to me. I no longer wish to
be associated. I do desire to be proud of America, Mr. President,
but it sure is a hard thing to do these days. We are dying.
We are destroying ourselves from within.
I want my voice to be heard. Mr. Wead spoke for me.
Where is my voice? Will I ever hear it again?
Sincerely,
Melba J. Bates

Mr. President,
I am more tha disappointed at the dismissal of Doug Wead
as the president's religious liaison. I am outraged! It seems
the trend of this administration is getting sympathetic toward
homosexuals. Mr. Wead was just doing his job and was fired.
I would like to see Mr. Wead reinstated at once!
You are, let me remind you, Mr. President, where you are
because of the millions of good Christian voters whose votes
are weighing in the balance at this point. To invite and to
give media time to homosexuals in the white house has jeapardized
your chances of being re-elected.
Reinstate Mr. Wead because he speaks for all decent Americans.
You do want to hear from us, don't you?

Dear Mr. President:
As part of the Evangelical community, I am deep-
ly concerned about the related events of the invitation of
leaders of homosexual groups to the White House for a
signing ceremony, giving them special status; and the firing
of Religious Liaison, Mr. Doug Wead.
First, why should homosexual groups have special
protection from discrimination when kleptomaniacs and DUIs
do not? Kleptomaniacs are discriminated against when
seeking jobs in banks, or as chashiers, etc. Those who
choose to drink and drive experience loss of jobs, loss of
driving privileges, and the wrath of many. Yes, my tongue
is in my cheek, but really, what is the difference?
You have sought the favor of those who voted
against you, and who will always vote against candidates
who stand for strong family values and righteousness. You
have offended those who voted for you BECAUSE of your state-
ment of standing for family values.
We appreciated your having a man of principle on
your staff, namely, Mr. Doug Wead. Now, because of the
animosity he stirred up within your staff, he has been
fired. You would serve your country better by weeding out
his enemies rather than casting Wead out.
Please reconsider and reinstate Mr. Doug Wead.
Learn to appreciate your friends, more than your enemies.

Dear President Bush,
I would like to register my opinion with you concerning the dismissal
of Doug Weed. Mr. Weed represented the view points of nearly 50 million
evangelical christians. A view point we don't take lightly. It is
disturbing to find the basis of his dismissal involves his outspokenness
regarding the inviting of homosexual leaders to various functions at
the white house. It is a total embarassment for the homosexual leaders
to be recognized by the white house at all. You were congratulated
by the homosexual community for Mr. Weed's dismissal. That alone should
indicate a reason to reconsider your position.
Though I don't know Mr. Weed personally, I am aware of his position of
protecting family and christian values. You were elected in large part,
by the evangelical community because you would protect our belief system.
I can't help but feel somewhat betrayed and disappointed that a minority
of less than 3% could influence your decision so greatly. These people
who wanted Mr. Weed out didn't even vote for you, and won't vote for
you next time. I have the highest regard for you, and the decisions you
have made as president. I strongly urge you to reconsider your position
regarding Mr. Weed. We have been told, we will like the unnamed
replacement. If the replacement accurately represents the evangelical
community as did Mr. Weed, he will be fired as well. It doesn't make
since does it? I urge you to make a stand and stop the erosion of family
values by the homosexual community. We will stand behind you all the way.

Dear Mr. President:
I want to express my disappointment at the decision to fire
Mr. Doug Wead. It seems in this day and time especially the
Christian-Judeo standards need all the help possible to keep the
morals and ethics of this country as high as they can get. People
like Doug Wead have been called to give this service. God help
us if we let the homosexuals of this country have their way.
I know how hard it must be for you, a Christian, to uphold
your beliefs in the position you are in, but because you are a

you have always believed to be right. The Christian community is

Dear President Bush:
I urge you to reconsider the firing of Doug Weade. My
husband and I and our grown children all voted for you
because you supported traditional family values. It is
rather upsetting to us that you are the first president
to invite leaders of the homosexual movement into the White
House, and that this action against Mr. Weade was taken
because he also voiced opposition to this.
Homosexuals have every right to live their private lives
as they choose, but to ask society to condone and legitimize
their lifestyle is unfair. I feel that your actions have
further eroded our society and will lead to heartache and
God's judgment upon this wonderful country.
Because of my respect for you, I will continue praying
for you and your advisors.
Please do not forget the support which you received from
the evangelical community.

Dear Mr. President,
d would like to express my disapproval of the firing
of Doug Wead, Public Laison, the voice of many conserva-
tive Americans. It seems, Mr. Bush, that you do not
know how deeply it offends me to see you listening to
the homosexual influences in your environment rather
than wisely remaining a representative of those who
elected you- the conservative mainstriam. you must
not realize how you will alienate active conservative
republicans if you continue to disregard conservative
and traditional ideals.
Do your advisors recommend a more congenial attitude
to homosexuals agendas in government? If they do, please
confer with reasonable, responsible and conservative men
and women who see more clearly how average American
voters respond to the vital issues of health care, day care,
church/ state relations, minority causes, family concerns,
etc. There are many who could provide insight about
national opinions - Gary Bauer, Bev LaHaye, Don Wildmon,
John Wilke, Marlin Maddoux, James Dobson to name a afew.

Dear Mr. President,
Yesterday, on the way home from work, I heard some bad news.
Doug Weed, one of the men of your staff, has apparently been
fired by you due to his strong stand for the family and the
Christian values upon which this nation was built. He has made
some enemies because he stood for things, I believe, made this
country strong.
One of the reasons I voted for you in the last presidential
election, was my belief that you stood for decency and for the
traditional family values I hold dear. It is discouraging to
hear you are succumbing to pressure from those who do not hold
those same beliefs. The breakdown of the family and the
destruction of the long-standing values of our society will not
make us a strong nation. Quite the contrary, we are being
destroyed by foolish men. This does not have to be.
Please reconsider your decision to remove Doug Weed from
your staff. You need men like him to help you make informed
decisions supportive of the family and of this nation. Please do
not let the anti-family groups force you to make expedient
decisions. I will be watching carefully to see how you treat the
conservative people who helped put you in your special office.
Please reinstate Doug Weed. It will be the act of a great man.

Dear Mr. President,
I am deeply disturbed about the dismissal of Mr. Doug Wead.
As I understand it, this was because of a letter sent to some
Evangelical leader apologizing for invitations sent to some
homosexual leaders to the signing ceremonies at the White House.
In my view, having homosexuals attend the Presidential
signing is a first in history and an offense to the conservative
element of this country. It was a mistake.
May I remind you that you could not have been elected
without the support of the Evangelical community. We felt that
you could be trusted to support family values. You broke your
strong commitment on taxes, you don't do anything to curb federal
funding on offensive art, and now you go back on your stand on
traditional values. This is deeply disappointment. Not only
because it is failure on your part but also because helps to take
the Country to the destructive left. It seems that you think
that you are free to offend some of your most reliable people.
There are reports that Evangelical leaders all across the
country are deeply upset by this action. Let me assure you that
unless prompt remedial action is taken your support will be
deeply eroded and rightly SO. Mr. Wead should be restored and
someone else should go.
Very respectfully yours,
James If. nott

Dear President Bush,
We are very upset over the
firing of Doug Wead, your
special assistant for Public Liason.
Mr. President, we as evangelical
christians, feel as though you
have turned your back on US.
Mr. Wead has done an excellent
job serving you and US! We
can't believe how you have turned
your back on Mr. Wead and
practically embraced the gay
t lesbian groups.
We feel betrayed. We voted
for mr. Reagan both times, and
for you as well. We even took off
from work to attend your
inauguration! We believed you
were a true conservative- - an
advocate for traditional values.
We must now consider looking else

Please, before. its too late, reconsider
mr. Weed + the values you
said you stood for.

Dear Mr. President:
I am herewith registering my disappointment and disagreement with the
recent firing of Doug Weab, Office of Special Assistance for Public
Liason.
I urge you to reconsider this move. I believe the firing of Mr. Weab
is a blow to all citizens who are in support of traditional family
values and those of the evangelical community such as myself. Also,
the voice of the homosexual community is being communicated to the
evangelicals as having more clout than they even though they
outnumber the homosexuals by millions.
My plea is that you reconsider your apparent move to idealogical
ideas opposed to the opinion of those in support of traditional
family values, including the conservative and the christian
communities; millions of who voted you into office.
As always, I will remain stedfast in my prayers for this country and
for Godly wisdom in all the decisions you must make.

Dear Mr. President,
I am very disturbed and strongly disagree with the dismissal of Mr. Doug
Wead. His position as your Special Assistant, Public Liaison, is a
critical administrative position. We need a person which upholds and
demonstrates strong Christian values. Mr. Wead represents those qualities
and filled that position. By remaining strong to his beliefs and in
standing firm against homosexuality and their lifestyle, he was removed as
a voice and leader for traditional family values. This, I feel, is a
discredit and defeat to Christians all across America.
Will the voice of the person who replaces Mr. Wead, be sensored by the
threat of dismissal if they do not conform to the beliefs of certain
members of your staff? I would hope not.
I urge you to reinstate Mr. Wead. We need to have strong Christian
leaders in your administration who stand with you to uphold the traditional
family values in our country.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Dear Mr. Sununu:
It was with shocking, grievous news that we received word of the displacing
of Doug Wead as liaison to the President and the seventy-five communities that
he represents. The loyalty of Doug Wead to George Bush is unquestionable. Mr.
Wead has great admiration for Mr. Bush. Mr. Wead's untiring, zealous enthusiasm
sparked many of us to vote for Mr. Bush for President of the United States.
In fact, I was one of the very first evangelical ministers to take my stand
with Mr. Bush as the nominee for President of the United States of America.
In our contact with Doug Wead we have found him to be a very gracious
and concerned person. It comes as a bitter and confusing amount of information
to know that his beliefs and convictions concerning a perverted lifestyle would
be a reason for his dismantling of responsibility. This is a tragic time for
this to happen. Under the circumstances of the moral values of our country
coming under severe opposition, President Bush's appeal to a great many of
the masses was his moral values, his fine family, his backing of causes that
maintain the development of morality and strength for the United States of
America.
To be suddenly surprised at the fact that we are losing Mr. Wead as a
liaison figure to the evangelical community is disturbing and deeply placed
in a category of suspicion. By all means, if at all possible, if the die is
not cast and the complete decision made, give Doug Wead some specific and impor
tant area of work in the government, if you cannot retrace the steps that could
restore him to his former position. Already the news has spread 50 fast through
the country that grave shadows are being cast on the conservative position
of the President and his administration.
If there is any possibility of calling for a gathering of evangelical
leaders in the near future to give us some understanding and insight into what
took place that would favor gays over millions of Christian believers in America,
I think it would be vitally important for the sake of future voting constituents
for our upcoming elections. What takes place before the elections is going
to have a big affect on our financial backing, for both personally and through
the church I have vocalized my backing for Mr. Bush, and I have used money
at my disposal to help finance the election of this fine administration.

Dear President Bush:
This is the first letter I have written to a U.S. President.
I'm an active Republican (precinct and committee work) and voted
for you and planned to again, until I was outraged to read in the
newspaper about the firing of Doug Wead apparently by Mr.
Sununu. I was equally alarmed by the public recognition you
afforded the gay community by inviting five of their leaders to
the White House for the signing of the Hates Crime Bill.
I'm disappointed, and I hope you restore Mr. Wead to a
significant role in your administration.
