Dear Governor Sununu:
It was a honor for all of us in attendance at the recent
Antiochian Christian Conference to have you come and address
the gathering. I am a third generation Lebanese American from
a family who has been highly motivated, hard working and has
stressed the value of a good education. More importantly, my
family has stressed the value of "family" and "religion" and
the recent conference is evidence of those kinds of values.
I found your words in your keynote address insightful and
thought-provoking and we do pray that all of the efforts of
President Bush's administration towards peace in the Middle
East as well as elsewhere in the world will have successful
results. We all applaud your efforts and your courage in
facing this very difficult world-wide problem. We also hope
that the Bush administration will achieve success in domestic
endeavors, particularly the problems facing our country with
respect to high crime, health care costs, education, the drug
problem, the homeless and the economy.
I enjoyed meeting your lovely wife, Nancy, and your
wonderful parents at the recent meeting. Miss Sally Abodeely,
who is my mother's second cousin, has often spoken of your
wonderful family and your wonderful acquaintance and I am happy
to have had the opportunity to finally meet you and your family.
Best of luck to you in your endeavors.
Yours truly,
you Jeyce A. Nader

Dear John:
Thank you for joining our Republican Policy Luncheon
yesterday, and your request of support for MFN for China was
very timely as the results of the vote last evening
indicated.
Enclosed is a copy of a letter signed by Republican
colleagues elected to leadership positions who support me as
Chairman of the 1992 Platform Committee.
I would be honored to serve in that capacity and
certainly would enjoy working with you to form an excellent
platform and foundation for a successful election in 1992, as
well as building our base and party in the years ahead.
Best regards.

Dear John:
You were great to arrange the President's visit to Mount Rushmore and all of
America benefitted from his presence and his remarks.
He has many more pictures than walls to hang them on, I know, but this shot of
the President at the foot of Mount Rushmore seemed to us to be extraordinary
and I thought he might like a memento of how we used it.
Best wishes to you. Let me know if I can be helpful in any way at any time.

The Honorable John Sununu
Chief of Staff
June 1991
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear John,
I want to thank you for my appointment to the President's
Commission on the future of international broadcasting; I
know all such appointments are problematic to the
appointer -- Lincoln once said every time he appoints a man
to a job he makes one friend and five enemies -- and one way
I'll thank you is to do my best to produce work that is a
credit to the administration.
I am also writing to tell you of my support for Richard
Rosenbaum for the vacancy on the Second Circuit Court of
Appeals. Dick is a man of extraordinary experience, ability
and judgement who has been a highly respected political force
in this fractious state for more than a quarter century. His
work as a Republican leader is well known and rightly
admired, as is his record as a Justice of the Supreme Court
of New York. But the Rosenbaum I like best is the one who
has for many years given strong rhetorical and practical
support to SO many of the views SO deeply held by
conservatives, such as support for the death penalty,
abolishment of the state Parole board, support for lower
taxes -- when coming out, early in the '80's, against high
state inheritance taxes he bluntly declared, "A man ought to
be able to leave his farm to his wife without paying taxes",
a statement which made this incipient conservative sit up and
take notice -- support for reducing the size of government,
and opposition to Medicaid funding for abortions.
I've known Dick personally since I moved back to New York two
years ago, but because he's been such a presence in this
state I feel I've known him longer. Most politically aware
New Yorkers probably feel the same. He helped bring the
state party through the rough shoals of the '60's, '70's and
'80's -- through the rise of modern liberalism New York
style, through Vietnam and Watergate and the past decade's
right-left disagreements. And rarely have these tensions
been worked out, soothed and straddled with as much civility,
good grace and leavening humor. (A Rosenbaum moment: years
ago at one of the Republican National Conventions, Dick, as a
Republican leader who was more of the Bush pursuasion than
the Reagan pursuasion, saw that the latter's supporters had
arranged a rousing chant. One side of the hall would shout
ern
gan! The southwestern state would answer with a full
roated, "Ole!" Dick watched, and signalled his troops.
suddenly someone in the back of the hall was bellowing
"Reagan!", and the New Yorkers in the gallery were answering,
"Oy vey!" I tell fellow conservatives that surely a man of
such good natured battle deserves not only our high regard
and affection, but our support.)
Dick is also exceptionally energetic and vigorous, which will
help with the 6 1/2 day-a-week workload circuit judges have.
I truly believe he will be a credit to the bench and to the
Administration.
My best to you, John, and when next you come up to these

Hon. John Sununu
Chief of Staff
The White House
Washington, DC
Dear Mr. Sununu:
Thank you for your letter, as always it was a pleasure to let
my voice hear in your behalf especially when media accusations
are exaggerated and ill intentioned.
I am enclosing my latest column for you to read it and of
course to show it to the President, in this column I am saying
that there seems to be a campaign against Republican
personalities such as the attacks against Mrs. Nancy Reagan,
against yourself and against President Bush.
It is an absurdity to try to blame President Bush for the
inflation, for the unemployment, for the world crisis, for the
banking crisis and so on, the Democrats have no issues, no
agendas, no programs, nothing, so they resort to insults, low
blows and innuendos, but the american people know better and they
are realizing as time passes how capable and skillful our
President really is.
Mr. Sununu, I would also like to take this opportunity to
remind you about my last request for a meeting with the President
at a soon to be date, thank you Mr. Sununu.
As always with my best wishes,
air Maraw

Dear Governor Sununu:
Mr. William Bazzy

Pursuant to our discussions at the AAC meeting last week, we
Mr. Mounzer Chaarani
in the Task Force are quite concerned that we have been
Mr. Ed Gabriel
unable to get a commitment from an appropriate level U.S.

Mr. Michel T. Halbouty
June 28) and to open the inaugural session (Thursday, June 27).

You indicated when we spoke last week that you were
Mr. Albert Joseph
pursuing Secretary Baker's participation. We could not be
Mr. Casey Kasem
more pleased. If he would agree to either time slot, then we
Mrs. May Moussa
would pursue the other.

Should Secretary Baker be unable to attend, perhaps it would

Dear Governor:
Have we done something to toughen up the federal
furlough program?
Whenever I ask folks at the White House about this, they
always say "yeah, we should do something" but I don't know
that we have yet.
I would hate to go into the 1992 election without some
tightening up of the furlough program at the federal level.
Take care.
Sincerely,

The Honorable John Sununu

Dear John:
As you know, we have invited you to speak at CSFA's National "Commitment to
Education" Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, September 26-27, 1991. I write
to keep you up to date with plans for the Conference.
Enclosed is a special issue of CSFA News that describes the Conference in
greater detail. You will note that we are planning a unique, major, national
event. The Conference will bring together for the first time a wide variety of
people concerned about education -- business executives, local community leaders
from towns and cities throughout the nation, educators from both the collegiate
and precollegiate level, government leaders, and others. General sessions,
breakfast roundtable discussions, and panel presentations will focus on the
variety of programs that are already working to make a positive difference in
student motivation and achievement.
CSFA Executive Assistant Jolene Christensen or I will call your appointments
secretary within the next two weeks to begin the process of checking on your
availability. I realize that you likely will not be able to commit to an
appearance at this point. We will plan to stay in touch as the date draws
closer. We are prepared to alter the Conference schedule to fit with your time
available.
With best wishes to you in your important work for our nation,
Sincerely,
Bill
