SUBJECT:
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MISSION TO THE
U.S.S.R. SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 9-14
Secretary Baker and I are leading a business development mission
to the Soviet Union during September 9-14. We will visit Moscow
and Leningrad. We will call on President Gorbachev and leading
Soviet government ministers. The objective of the mission is to
increase non-military trade and investment with the U.S.S.R.
This mission is the first Presidential designated mission under the
Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee announced May 23, 1990.
Our group will include CEOs from leading U.S. companies in four
industry areas: energy, transportation, housing and food/food
processing. At present, the CEOs include:
1. Dwayne Andreas, ADM
2. Alex Mandl, CSX/Sealand
3. Ken Derr, Chevron
4. Jack Murphy, Dresser
5. James Shea, Fairmont Homes
6. Jim Jameson, Glenair
7. Leighton Steward, Louisiana Land and Exploration
8. Don Marron, PaineWebber
9. Don Kendall, Pepsico
10. Ches Pruet, Pruet Oil
11. Len Sylk, Shelter Systems
12. Mark Hungerford, Transcisco
13. Bill Esrey, United Telecom

Henson Moore of Energy, John Macomber of the EXIM Bank, Fred
Zeder of OPIC and probably Condi Rice of the NSC are the other
U.S. Government delegates. I look forward to visiting with you after
you return from the Soviet Union.
