John Henry Sununu, 49, of Salem, New Hampshire became the state's
93rd Governor on January 6, 1983, defeating the incumbent Democrat in
the November 1982 general election. He was reelected Governor in 1984 by
a two-to-one margin, and was again reelected in 1986.
Governor Sununu assumed office with a background of nearly 20 years
experience and service as an educator, engineer, small businessman and
community leader.
