Dear Patty:
General Carl Vuono, Chief of Staff of the
Army, and General Al Gray, Commandant of the
Marine Corps, will both be departing for
Saudi Arabia on the morning of Sunday, 23
December to spend Christmas with the troops.
We have confirmed with Secretary Cheney's
office that no other members of the Joint
Chiefs are currently scheduled to go for
Christmas Although GEN H. Norman
Schwarzkopf will be on station, Generals
Vuono and Gray will be the senior military
officers spending Christmas with the troops.
We would like to set up phone calls to
Generals Vuono and Gray for this Sunday

pass on his personal holiday greetings to the
troops With your concurrence, I will
arrange for the calls to be placed from Camp
David. I can set up a call to GEN Vuono for
