Dd December 8, 1988 JOE BARTON Cory TEXAS Mr. Chase Untermeyer President-Elect Dir. of Personnel 1825 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20270 mumber connicil 1 of advisors Goinding Dear Mr. Untermeyer: I understand that the President-elect is planning to create a "Council of Science and Technology Advisers" to work with the principal Science Advisor to the President. I am writing to recommend Dr. Frank Cotton for a position on this council, should it be created. Dr. Cotton is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Molecular Structure and Bonding at Texas A&M University. As a professor he would be well qualified as a spokesman for basic academic science. Among his many achievements, Dr. Cotton was the recipient of the National Medal of Science in 1982, as well as numerous other awards for scientific accomplishment. He is also a member of the Texas National Research Laboratory Commission on the Superconducting Super Collider. As you can see from his resume, Dr. Cotton has been actively involved in all aspects of science throughout his career. He could make a great contribution to our Nation if appointed to this Council. I hope that you will give him your highest consideration. If you would like any more information about Dr. Cotton, please let me know. Sincerely, Barten Joe Barton ember of Congress JB/lac Paid for by The Congressman Joe Barton Committee for tax
