MARIE MORRISON
A. Marie Morrison is the Executive Director of organization known
as "New View". This organization is non-profit and serves blind
and handicapped persons. This lady 's high school graduation took
place at the State School for the Blind;she then went on to earn her
Bachelor of Science at the Univ. of Arkansas and a Master of Social
Work from Tulane Univ. in New Orleans. She has had a great deal of
experience in working to serve the blind through city and state organi-
zations and came to New View Inc. in Tulsa, as Executive Director in 1980.
INVOCATOR:
RE-CAP OF BOARD MEETING: Bill Smith of the Benham Group in Tulsa was present for indoctrination

Vice President of the stock brokerage firm. Lists of Expenditures for the club and the
foundation were approved. Memorial High School held their installation of officers on
Monday evening May 20th at Furr's Cafeteria at Utica Square. Chet Heath was speaker for
the event. The Green Country Christian Academy held their Charter Night dinner at the
academy on Monday evening May 20th with President Tom Coffman presiding. Max Fisher
announced his appointment of Mark Dixon as his secretary for 1985-86.
BRIDGE GROUP: This group meets the third Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Fontana

M.O.P. IS SENDING AN S.O.S
HELP is still needed for the final night of the Miss Oklahoma
Pageant, that is Saturday June 8th. The empty spaces are in security, ushering. and
program sales. The security slots are very important for the girls safety backstage.
DAN GRIDLEY may be doing a great deal of calling this next week. If anyone discovers
that he can now work on that evening please call DAN at work at 744-5588 or you can
call him,up to 11:00 p.m. ,at home at 494-7639. We know you all want to see the
program on Saturday, but remember that there is always some "kook" who hopes he can
slip by security to get to Miss America or some of our contestants along with Miss Ok
Go the extra mile and forego seeing all those beautiful girls on stage, so that you
can help ensure their safety backstage. CALL DAN.
KIWANIS FOR KIDS: Tom Coffman is in training for that 100 miles a day on his bike, that he plans
in August, to Corpus Christi. It's rather mind boggling when you think of some-
one planning such a trip, with no advantage to himself, some expense to himsel
and a lot of hard work and body aches to himself. Tom is doing this not for
publicity for himself either but publicity for Kiwanis and for the kids that
Kiwanis money helps. Tom is hoping to get one of the radio stations in this
area interested in publicizing this event but he wants to make it clear that
he is not soliciting funds from the public. He expects the Kiwanians all throu
Oklahoma and Texas to donate funds so that the District Foundation (and for us
our own foundation) can continue helping the young people in this area. We
have mentioned that Tom has one donation from a non-Kiwanian of $2,500.00 whic
was given with the stipulation that Tom's own Kiwanis club double that amount
in gifts. To reach that goal each member in our club would have to give $27.00
We know that not everyone cant bthat, but some can give less while others
give more and we will be able to reach more young people who need help throug
scholarships and our other foundation programs. As Tom begins to approach some
of the large companies in this area as sponsors of the trip, he would like to
say that this club is behind him 100%. All gifts will be tax free donations ar
the money our members give will go into the corpus of our foundation. The
money other Kiwanians give will go into the Texas-Oklahoma District Foundation
T-0 District is excited about this project There are approximately 18,006
members in Kiwanis in the T-0 District. Just think if each Kiwanis member
donated $1.00, what a donation it would be for the district.
MEMBER NEWS: Recently, LEX FRIEDEN, son of DALE & ELECTA LEE FRIEDEN, was appointed Executive
Director of the National Council on the Handicapped in Washington, D.C. by Preside
Ronald Reagan. From the Tulsa World: "He runs an independent federal agency He commu
daily to his downtown office by bus and subway, and he flew to California this week
on official business. (issue of Sunday May 5th) "This activity would not be considere
so challenging, except that this native Oklahoman is a quadriplegic. He bucks traff
in a wheel chair and maneuvers a prosthetic device on his right forearm.' If ever
your day goes badly for you, just think of the obstacles Lex overcomes every day of
his life. He's not just sitting at a desk either; he's there fighting for a better
way of life for other handicapped people, and an understanding from the rest of us.
Blessings on you, Lex Frieden. the
