January 23, 1989, 11:21 - 11:25 a.m.

Oval Office - Presidential Palace
The President said he was calling to thank President Alfonsin for
the kind telegram on his inauguration.
President Alfonsin thanked him and wished him "all the luck in
the world."
The President asked about of President Alfonsin's health.
President Alfonsin answered that he was quite well. He said that
there was a problem with a regiment which had been entered by
some civilians. He didn't know their ideology. He hoped that
the "final battle" was taking place at that time. He then wished
the President luck.
The President wished him the same. He said that he had seen a
brief report this morning and hoped that it is not worrisome in
terms of the stability of "your marvelous system."
President Alfonsin thanked the President for his kind words,
wished him every success and said that he will keep the President
and his government informed. He hoped to have the situation
resolved today.
The President said that was good, adding that he had placed the
call before reading about the disturbance. He said that he was
glad to hear that President Alfonsin had the situation under

courtesy of the message of the 20th.

President Alfonsin thanked the President and again wished him
luck.
The President thanked Alfonsin.
