The President: Hello, Your Majesty. I'm calling to thank you
for your warm message of congratulations. I look forward very
much to seeing you and working with you.
King Hussein: Thank you. I wish you every success. I too look
forward to seeing you and working together to achieve our common
goals and objectives, God willing.
The President: We've assembled a good team in Washington, with
Secretary Baker and General Scowcroft and Governor Sununu. We're
all sensitive to the problems of the region, the importance of
the peace process, and Jordan's unique role.
King Hussein: It is a very, very good team. I look forward to
very fruitful cooperation on all matters of mutual concern. I
can't say how optimistic I am about the prospects for working
together. We'll do all we can to help.
The President: I understand you'll be going to Tokyo for Emperor
Hirohito's funeral. I would very much like to spend a few
moments together with you there, if that would be convenient for
you. Secretary Baker and General Scowcroft and Governor Sununu
can join us.
King Hussein: I would be delighted to meet with you.
The President: Good. I'll mention that to General Scowcroft and
Secretary Baker. Please tell Queen Noor that Barbara really
appreciated her call yesterday. Please give her our best.
King Hussein: I will.
